Isn't this the car that we were talking about a week or two that was supposed to have a rotary in it?

And none too soon. You'd think that a styling feature that was that universally disliked wouldn't have made it into production on one car, no less 5 of them.
The new Takeri concept car hints at next generation Mazda6 will be unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show late next month. The vehicle will come out a new regenerative braking system. The brakes will power the car's electrical functions and thereby conserve fuel. The introduction of a new regenerative braking system takes the fuel-saving technology even further. The system generates electricity whenever the brake is pressed. That electricity is stored in capacitors and employed later to power electrical functions of the car.

Or maybe a Volvo S60 badge?

You say that like it is a bad thing. I had a RWD toyota corolla. Things were better back then.

more like, recent Mazda designs cause tears of laughter.

My feeling is that the Mazda has that grace that Jaguar's been trying to reclaim for years. Of course, I also think a 1995 240SX has some of that same grace as well. The Volvo is graceful...for a Volvo.
A RWD 626 wouldn't make sense from a packaging or marketing standpoint. There's a good reason all of the sensible cars tend to use FWD. For most people, it is a superior setup. Heck, have you ever seen surveys on how many BMW 1-series owners think their cars are FWD?
