After more research and reading some over at turbobricks I think a b230FT with an auto might be the way to go. Slightly upped boost should net 200hp without much trouble.
Anyone have an extra for sale?

Did anyone mention a supercharged gm 3800? Might be the good medium between LSX and 4cyl. Should be dirt cheap, too.
I think the 3800 is just as wide as the LSx.... There isn't a lot of room between the upper control arms. Unless I convert the entire front suspension to something else...not something I feel like I am up to with this one.

Had that combo in my 940 wagon - was not that impressed - parts availability on a DD (read: Not internet) was poor - VERY poor. Performance was fine, but longevity of little parts was not. I'd stick with the B20 over one, especially considering the swap effort.
Build a good B20 - we did some research when we were lemons racing it - the Ford Mod motor piston will fit in the block and increase the bore a ton (lots of wall spacing on the B20) while giving you a modern ring package and a floating wristpin. I can't remember which rod, but an off the shelf rod and a slight offset grind calculated out to something like 2.3 liters and 10:1 compression. They have other cams available, and if you MS it, you'll have driveability too.
V-performance has bored/ stroked a B20 to 2.5 litres, they'll probably sell you the parts or at least tell you how to do it.
As for fuel injection, a buddy of mine in the Corvair club who is bad at soldering decided to use GM OEM stuff to adapt an FI solution to his Corvair. Saved a tone of $$ over Megasquirt, and he has logged over 77,000 miles on this setup (he's a salesman, and drives his Corvair on all his calls- its a convertible, too!) I asked him the other day if he'd consider working on something similar for one of my Volvo engines, and he seemed interested in it. I'm bad at soldering, too. ;-)
Just to be clear, there's no soldering involved in megasquirting if you don't want there to be. You can buy a completed megasquirt, a universal harness, a relay board, etc. so all you have to do is cut to length and crimp a few wires to build up your harness.

Well she made it home(well stored at my parents....no room at my place right now)...drove on her own power about 25 miles. Tires are in pretty rough shape and the clutch is at the end of its life. But all in all it drove nice.
A few more pictures in the daylight
coming out of it's barn.....
Made is home
extra parts...set of bumpers, front grill surround, rear hatch, couple boxes of odds and ends, I THINK I saw an extra complete dash in there.
This tire is sorta cool....original?
Now that I have it home...I paid $900 for it!
The 60 degree V6 isn't a bad idea. They are still used in newer vans and have a 3.9L version that makes 240hp...hmmm I will have to measure one.
$900 and it drove home? I paid 1k for mine and had to tow it. Nicely bought.
I know Megasquirt can be bought pre-soldered, but the price goes up. The junkyard GM OEM solution my friend came up with is just as slick, allows purchasing OEM replacement parts, and was less than 1/2 the cost, all-in.
yup...$900 and it drove home. She was asking $1100. The lady bought it two years ago and drove it back from ohio.
It is a little rusty and will need some rust repair but all in all it is pretty damn solid.

Do you have any details about your friend's GM setup? Can you get him to join so we can grill him??? :-)
Very nice! Glad you were able to drive it home. I gabbed mine with my trailer this weekend. I'll try and get some pictures today. $900 is a great deal!

I'm working on getting him to come up with a setup for my Amazon. Meantime, here's his website. He's very active in our local Corvair club.

Well I came across a b230ft complete w/trans, wiring, intercooler, newish radiator, brackets, etc etc for $340....picked it up today.
update, update. What ever happen to this project? How hard is it to find parts for this car? Every time I want to buy a classic car I always remember what PITA it was to get parts for my rx2. Seems the only easy to get parts for cars are mustang/camaro/chevelle/vw/2002.
Volvo 122s have a pretty good parts supply. The B18/20 engine was made in the millions most likely, and it's a robust mill besides. There are more than a couple websites catering to the Amazon, and enthusiasts seem well-set for both stock and performance parts.
You'll need to log in to post.
