How is it in sand and mud? Does it leave pretty 11's? Can it handle a jump? They're making one with T-tops right?

The trans is a different design completely, as it does not share the 1:1 6th gear. 2. It's a Fiat engine, so I would be amazed if it were a Mazda PCM. 3. The Abarth rally car had a hardtop, so it's been shown. Of course, that hardtop had a roof vent... 4. Interior pictures show what appears to be the Mazda system. The interior is basically identical to the Mazda. 5. FiatUSA.com says "Summer 2016" and $24,995.

Well done, grasshopper.

I heard a rumor that the trans is pretty much an NC Miata piece. No idea if that is true, though.

I'll see the car in person first thing in the morning. For tonight, I was handed the Book of Secrets:

Also, they gave me a scarf. I'm basically Italian now.

I usually bring my old ones with me when I go somewhere to leave in waiting rooms. You should be able to dig up a couple.

More importantly my wife wants to know if they can loan her one for the summer. She's not ready to trade in the 500 yet but wants a convertible for the weekends.

Does it sound as good as the Abarth? Is the transmission the same as the Mazda? Does that wee little mill spin happily? Is the shifter precise? How is the pedal positioning? Can you LFB the car without the ECU cutting throttle?

If they build a sedan they damn well better build a wagon. But now I feel like I'm being greedy asking for a light RWD Italian turbo wagon.

Already been done eh?

Maybe not Italian, but close enough.

I have a question, why are you on lockdown until the 10th? I assume that it's all journo's and not just GRM, but also noticed that TG already has a review up.

I'd also like to know if they'll be supporting racing like Mazda does. Would Spec Miata turn into Spec Miata/Spec 124? Probably more of an SCCA question for classing, but I know Mazda is a big supporter.

Interesting question about the spec series. I'm guessing that the car is different enough that it would be considered a different car, despite the shared chassis. Given that the NC Miata isn't included in Spec Miata yet (and may never be, as you'd have to tie a safe behind each one to balance the performance), I doubt it'll ever be an issue.

Although I may have inadvertently come up with the next redneck destruction race plan.

I don't know what SCT is, but as far as I know, basically every modern ECU has been cracked for tuning.

The only one that comes off the top my head that hasn't is 2016+ Audi S3s.

I'd like to know the dimensions of the trunk opening vs. the Miata. At the Detroit Auto Show the Fiat looked bigger, but they weren't side by side. The Miata opening is TINY! Will two bags of golf clubs fit (For my Dad, I don't like losing balls as much as he does).

I was under the impression that most Mazda OEM ECUs aren't tunable. I know I have heard complaints from the Miata NA/NB and Mazda 3 crowd about HAVING to go Haltech, MS, etc. to be able to get dyno tuning done. SCT is Super Chips Tuning (hand held/laptop programable tuners).

Mazda ecus are notorious for being hard to crack. Cobb did thes3 a few years ago and now you can reflash with am accessport. This won't have a mazda ecu though, this will have fiat electrics.

The NA/NB Miatas did not have what I'd call a modern ECU. I don't think they could even be rewritten until 2001.
