Went to a local cruise-in last night. Lots of nice cars there but I fell in love with this one.
Yes, corvairs came turbocharged.
Yes, there were kits to put them in Volkswagens.
Offenhauser was an aftermarket parts company. It's not an offenhauser engine.
This car showed up at the Virginia Vair Fair (parked behind my Corvair-powered Westy in what turned out to be a 3 car "VW class"... a new record!)
I don't particularly care for Baja bugs in general... but the quality and workmanship on this car was absolutely stunning. Likely the best such Corvair conversion I've ever seen... extremely impressive!
Hate I missed the local event... looks pretty cool! Bill

My Father had a turbo Corvair just out of college. I was unaware of that when he insisted that at the same point in my life, I purchase a used Impala wagon.
This was one of a group of 8 bettles that come from WV on occasion.
Another example:
@wcelliot: This was the cruise-in at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown. Held 1st thru 4th Saturdays of the month. Last ime I heard the car count at one there were 410 cars.
There is also a small cruise-in at the Frederictowne Mall on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and one at the Jimmy Cone in Mt Airy on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. And one in Charlestown WV on Friday nights. So if you want to show off your car or just go look there are plenty of opportunities in the area.
