A few years back I did something pretty cool. It was detailed in my build thread that has gotten a lot of page views and was even covered at buildthreads.com.

I installed sport bike brake calipers on my Fiat 850.They work well, VERY well and weigh 6lbs per corner less than the factory brakes.

I am flattered. I really am. I wasn't about to offer it as a kit or try to make money off of it, so good for John, but... I was the guy who scoured the catalogs and spec sheets looking for just the right calipers, I was the one who found out of all of them which ones used the right piston sizes to work seamlessly with the stock master cylinder. I took the plunge no one else would and did it.

Heck even his alloy bracket looks just like my steel one.

I am flattered but a little butthurt about it. shrug

OK done venting.

You didn't want to make a kit or anything. You obviously aren't holding a patent. It's a pretty straight forward job. So, what were you expecting, royalties?

I'd be flattered.

Personally, I like your steel adapters better. Although his milled adapters look better than his first set.

What calipers are they? It looks like the idea might work on a Spitfire as well.

I'd take it as a compliment.

Sport bike calipers were waaay to big for citicar rotors

This is why I like open sourcing things. If they give my original design as credit for part of their improved version, then good for them.

I'm one of those hippie "free information" guys, though.

I'm with Bryce on this one. Feel flattered, for sure; if you didn't want it to be copied or monetized you totally could have done so yourself. Now someone else is running with your idea to offer the conversion to the masses, which honestly is a pretty stand up thing to do for any group of obscure old car guys.

It's also worth noting that companies like Ireland Engineering and AMS have built huge businesses on selling copies of other people's parts.
