Tested out my ZAV today on a little trail I found.
I uhh... didn't get very far!
Success!
What have I learned? Well, for starters, it's a lot easier when your fellow trail rigs aren't a stock Xterra and a 92 Ranger. Also, I need larger tires. Yes, that's always a solution. And the temp was climbing pretty nicely, time to look into the cooling system. And a winch...and lockers...and a diesel swap. Yes, that last one will make all the difference!
ya that last one is a simple little fix that makes a ton of difference
Locking diffs, Super Swampers, winch and More Power! Then you start breaking stuff or stick it where no one can get to you. BTDT. Fun though!
That's some pretty serious mud there too.

It was terrible. Some weird half-clay, half stank-ass mud concoction. Stickey, heavy, all around a bad idea to try and drive through.
That's what the more power is for. The only way to get through that muck is to spin the tires fast enough to clean themselves. Other wise the treads clog up and it's like driving on slicks in wet grass.
I had similar issues with my Z.A.V. :
Thats my dad in the Jeep and the wonder bro in law with the strap.

Isn't that a nice dirt road next to your stuck Jeep? I probably would have taken that.

If you go south down 1604 past Randolph, on the right as you pass an overpass you'll see some soccer fields. Due left of that is a short dirt road with another dirt road going left off of it. That's it. A couple of puddles of various sizes, nothing special.

The most excitement I had this weekend was going through a slightly flooded roadway in my WRX. I didn't even get muddy
i watched big ole boy 4x4 pickmeups doing mud drags and circuit runs
I need to find some trails.

That is my ZAV. Sure, I can't drive on roads, but the roads would only slow us down.

Awesome. Unfortunately, I'm moving to Nebraska the 15th!
Winch and lockers, and some more mud-oriented tires.
Looking at the pixxors you need some mudpuppies instead of the golf cart tires you are using under the Pigoyota.

lockers & tires - don't need to be bigger than those - just better - looks like you had decent clearance.
In reply to John Brown:
staying the hell outta that del rio clay would have probably helped too (swelling clay, cause of the majority of central texas foundation problems south of Austin)
osterkraut: thats a shame, enjoy nebraska! at least you're that much closer to utah and colorado there.
Some advice: an automatic locker is just a tarted-up spool. I wouldn't recommend one unless your truck literally spends more time off-road than on-road. The price difference between an auto and manual locker will quickly be paid in tire costs.
See if you can get Ox Lockers for your axles.
In reply to GameboyRMH:
its a toyota, so yes, Ox lockers are most likely available, as are ARB lockers.
and don't sell stock xterras short, i've been quite happy with my Off Road package X
I love off road. I hate mud. Mud is what is in the way when I'm trying to get to rocks.
