It was the first time in maybe 5 years I sat through the whole race and when It was over I was truly sad as it was so exciting. I was on my couch for three hours and it seemed like one hour!!!! All the passing and strategy playing out and the restarts were just nuts. These drivers were doing things with the cars that I kept saying that it is not going to work or this is going to end badly and some how they would all sort it out and keep on going. I mean 4 wide in to T1 or T4 at 230 mph is just not supposed to work and yet it did. I also liked that there was actually passing on the outside.
It was a great race to watch. Probably one of the best 500's in years.

How much of the fun was watching Alonso? I sure found myself looking for him, even when he was in the crowd.
Which brings up one of the things that's tough about Indycar- That orange Maclaren really stood out. Trying keep track of who is who is tough- I like Hinchcliffs gold car, and whartsisnames green one, but there are so many white and blue cars... F1 at least you can tell the manufacturer from the color of the car, but figuring which driver is tough. Stock car racing is a bit easier, what with those billboards down the side.
I decided to go on a motorcycle ride yesterday so I missed the race. Just finished watching it.

The Alono story was great. And I agree the color of some cars made them blend in.
I seem to remember one graphic where the had the Orange Alonzo car on one side of the screen an his team mate in the yellow car on the other side of the screen. With there names under them. Unforchinitly they got the names swapped. The only reason I noticed it was the car colors.
So a couple of days late as usual, but what the hell.
I think that's the best race regardless of series I've seen in a long time. Even better than being there last year for the 100th running. I was in a constant text battle with Tom Spangler through the race. So sorry for both RHR and Fred, but I couldn't be happier with the result. Taku has always been so fun. I called it on him heading back to the front when he was still outside the top 10, he was making places all over the track. With 10 laps to go I had visions of 2012, lap 200 turn 1. Win it or bin it! He won it for a very very popular victory.

The only disappointment was the Freedom 100. That has been an amazing race for the last few years. This year was a snooze fest with no lead changes and only one really serious effort. I'm used to 2-3 cars less than a car length apart with the lights cars. I wonder if the old cars ran better close to each other?
Back in the office after another great Indy weekend! I'm glad to see Sato win---- as he's a hard charger, and is always fun to watch. Those last few laps were a blast--- the feeling in the stands was electric. It was nice to see an exciting finish, after so many cautions throughout the race. Our seats were on the front straight, so I only saw Dixon's crash on the jumbotron---- it was terrifying, glad and amazed he's ok.
It rained like Hell on Friday, so the camping fields surrounding the track turned into a giant mud-pit. We were over with the wild animals in Coke Lot 1C--- the shenanigans in the mud on Saturday were highly entertaining! 
About 1/2 way through the race, the drivers were taking serious chances, as the threat of rain was real. Fortunately, the weather held until just after the race---- and then it poured! I hear they lost power in the Speedway during the storm. I can only imagine how many RV's got stuck in the mud---hundreds? Thousands? It was a mess----- a fun, glorious mess!
We're ordering our tickets today for next year's running. 28 years in a row, and it's still my favorite weekend of the year!
