Inflation collector car market

I think the distinction between "car" and "collector car" is relevant here.  One is a virtual necessity, the other is among the most frivolous of luxury items.  As inflation takes its bite out of everyone's disposable income, the dollars left over for luxury items will diminish, and the market for collector cars will drop. 

I think a lot of the current asking prices on collector cars are heavily influenced by the crack pipe.

My "collector cars" are a replacement for psychiatrist visits.  The hour or two a night I spend in the shop is my therapy.  

I've never been able to justify buying a classic car, as prices went insane when I got a little "disposable" income to play with. I'm hopeful that prices will come back down to earth, although I'm not holding my breath.

With prices the way they are, I think it is likely if I ever get around to buying something from the 60s, it'll be a four door, just to keep the price sane.

It's sadly easier for me to put $10k into a $300 integra than to pay $25k for an R

I for one am ready to embrace 4 doors.  And long bed trucks.

Long bed by itself won't get you affordable. You have to combine that with 3/4 or 1 ton capacity. 

Deals still exist. You just have to be in the network, and be ready to pounce. He paid how much for a '66 Mustang V8 coupe?

I'm actively shopping for a Miata. Na or nb and under $10k. To say that prices are all over the map would be an understatement. I'm having a hard time convincing myself that this is the right time to buy, but I can afford to pay for a car now and see the value decline in 6 months. I cannot afford to spend a couple extra grand in 6 months for essentially the same car, if that makes sense. 

With that said, I'm looking at two cars tommow with a pocket full of cash.

Oh definitely.  If you're hoping to maintain value and also want the cache of the factory, real Type R, there's no substitute
