Are those trans able to go full manual control? Or flappy paddles?

Yes manual valve bodies are available and the Shadow came with a unknow conditon auto with a RMVB.The auto can be built to hold some power.
Ahh, ok. Well the auto is not a big deal as long as you are 2.5 and can build boost at converter stall. Shouldnt be a handicap unless you put some gigantic turbo on it.

I think itll 60' very well with the auto.I had low 1.9's with the auto and 1.85 best with the manual.I think the brown van would be faster with a Auto, if flexplate wouldn't have broken it would still have one.
The auto in those is based on the 727 Torqueflite, so they are stout and can be modified with a reverse manual valve body among other things (some even had lock up converters on the turbo cars, but those are pretty much 92 turbo cars only)
Autocross can be fun with the auto since you can build boost at the apex to help with exit. The trick is that you really need a limited slip or you'll be roasting the inside tire pretty badly.
Shimming the sway at to help corner balance the front end helps, but there's a limit. The OBX limited slip isn't GRM Challenge cheap, but it's pretty much the only decent option and you still need to space the final drive gear over and modify the diff cover.
