Figured I'd get the thread started on my 14-ish hour drive from the homebase in Michigan to Darlington SC for tech day tomorrow.
The initial plan was to take the ex-wife's Explorer ST, after I just installed a new Whipple intercooler and a HPTuners box with 4 credits, but nixed after calculating tire height and not wanting to destroy the viscous 4wd. You have to run a slick, treaded slick, or drag radials.
Backup plan is running my Mustang again. Hoping to better the 13.30@111 average of last year. No trailer, no tools, no problem.
Currently Tom Bailey is still motorless in sick seconds 1.0 after roasting some bearings yesterday or the day before....
Always look forward to Drag Week. Never been there personally but enjoy all the Youtube videos it produces. Good luck with whatever you choose to run.

- Darlington Dragway (Hartsville, SC) — 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time for registration, tech inspection, and test 'n' tune (tech open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., test 'n' tune begins at 2 p.m. )
Day 1 Racing / Monday, Sept. 18
- Darlington Dragway (Hartsville, SC) — Gates open 7:30 a.m. local time, racing hours 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.
Day 2 Racing / Tuesday, Sept. 19
- Rockingham Dragway (Rockingham, NC) — Gates open 7:30 a.m. local time, racing hours 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.
Day 3 Racing / Wednesday, Sept. 20
- Bristol Dragway (Bristol, TN) — Gates open 7:30 a.m. local time, racing hours 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.
Day 4 Racing / Thursday, Sept. 21
- Carolina Dragway (Aiken, SC) — Gates open 7:30 a.m. local time, racing hours 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.
Day 5 Racing (Finals) / Friday, Sept. 22
- Darlington Dragway (Hartsville, SC) — Gates open 7:30 a.m. local time, racing hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time, followed by awards.

Another tid bit. If you happen to live near any of these tracks but can't get away from work for a whole afternoon... The cars arrive to a town the night before the events. Therefore, every hotel near the event is sold out and every hotel parking lot that night is another free car show!

I am trying to get a Rocky Mountain Race week next year.
Tech line is looooooong today.
Last night was sketchy af on worn out Nitto dr's in a heavy downpour on I75 just south of Lexington KY. Had to pull off in London and wait 30ish minutes for it to let up before continuing. I knew Jellico would not have been fun in the rain.

Drag newbie dumb question, why can't you run a "regular" street tire? At least in the slower ET classes?

The regular radial pulls up the rubber on the starting line. Doing this makes little balls of rubber and when you go on a slick or a softer compound, you end up blowing the tires off because essentially you are launching on little ball bearings.
Update: passed tech with this slow af thing.

Lots of vehicles making the track run slow due to hidden water from yesterday's rain falling out from rocker panels and wheel wells.
VW beetle convertible from England ran a 9.59 with the top down. Bailey ran a 7.7? Matt Frost, owner/promoter of Rocky Mtn Race Week, in his Hulk nova ran 6.7?

Same Mustang GT I ran last year in street machine eliminator. Hoping to improve on last years 13.300@111.975 average.
Finally had a chance to run - 13.07@111. Not great but better. Still won't 60' to save its life. Oh well.
Turned in a better 13.02@112.

Already ran a 12 last year at Cordova. 
That fox is plain ignorant, Vanderhoof's a bit of a local to this drag week, I'd be surprised if he hasn't hit up each of these tracks this summer just to get data.

I know he put on the Southeast street-n-yeet. I believe it hit Carolina Dragway and Darlington at the very least. Given he is from SC.

I've done drag week twice. It's an epic time. Some of the check points they make you do are pretty sweet too. Freiburger and roadkill are kind of my inspiration that got me into racing cars.

This is year 2 for myself. Next year the plan is to do Sick Summer with the ex wife in 2 seperate vehicles and drag week again.
