I'm way too excited about this one guys. I bought a Mercedes, and not just any Mercedes, one that has three extra letters attached to the end of the model. That's right. I bought an AMG.. but which one did I buy? Oh.. only a 2005 C55 AMG, yep 5.4 liters of pure German V8 awesomesauce. Well how much did I pay for this automotive crap shoot? A whopping $3200... Yeah that's why it could either be one of my greatest finds, or the most cosmic of money pits in the universe. I was hoping to get it for under challenge money so I bring the biggest ringer of them all to the aristocrats class, but alas the bids went higher than I hoped. So it has crash damage to the front, it'll need new headlights, new bumpercover and trim, and probably a new hood. I now the radiator is broke and the A/C condenser. But really it looks like a light hit. The airbags didn't go off and nothing was reported to that carfox guy. I go Wednesday to pick it up.
So stay tuned for a build thread on this guy and if time allows I might just try to put it in the exhibition class at the challenge. In the mean time, the pics from the seller will have to do, till I get it home.
That should be interesting.
This is like the upscale version of the "$50.00 Saab".
We will watch your progress with much enthusiasm...
If it looks like it's all going to hell, just part it out and use the money to buy yourself a nice new Corvette!
I have five bucks in the "catastrophic money pit" pool. Who's covering this action?
But seriously, nice buy. I hope it serves you well and holds out for a few years until it gets really expensive.
OH MYYYYYYYYYYY........
If it's anyone who can resurrect a car like this on the cheap, it's a GRM'er.
it's a shame those cars are only available with an auto. I bet a manual would be a riot

I think they were using those as F1 safety cars for a while. I remember hearing one coming up from behind me at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. I thought it was a Camaro with headers and three inch exhaust pipes. It was astonishingly fast.

If I decide to keep it I will have to look into what sounds good on these cars. The GRMer in me wants to put some Magnaflows on there and make it sound nasty.
I'm thinking 10% awsomesauce, 90% mistake.
Good luck and have fun.
I'm both extremely excited and extremely nervous for you. Good luck
Awesome!
Either it will work and it will be an epic tire-slayer or it wont work. Either way youll be broke
Sitting next to my wife on the couch, I blurted out "WHAT THE...".
Then I decided not to show her or talk about it. I just bought a 2005 Yukon Denali for that price and I'm not in the mood to talk about "what car" with her again!

this is the only correct choice
So two headlights, a bumper, a rad and condenser...Should be a bit less than $10,000. Good deal.
So far my $2000 ML55 AMG has been okay. The more I tinker around the more I like it.

Straight pipes is the only way to go.
I like how the AMG Mercs sound out of the gate; it's a subdued raucousness. I heard a Chrysler 300 today with aftermarket exhaust, and it was really out of character. Sounded like a 90's Camaro.
I've pretty much wanted to buy a cheap AMG Mercedes for a while, but I would rather live vicariously through other people.
That steering wheel makes it look like the thing has seen some miles.
In reply to Harvey:
156k on the clock. Which is only 15k a year, so it's actually low miles in retrospect. But yeah I'm going to have to re-wrap it or find a nice used unit.
So... Will that engine fit in a Miata?
