Because it sucks?

I read a bit of one in a customer's bathroom last week. I'm pretty sure it was there in case the toilet paper ran out. Not impressed.

Must be the stores in your area. I see it on the shelf all the time.

I haven't read it years, not because I don't like it but simply because my tastes have changed. I have checked out the Hot Rod Power Tour when it comes through town and always enjoyed it. I hope it's doing OK as I feel like it's an old friend and one of the iconic older car magazines.

I was just wondering when the last time I saw a newsstand was....I"m gonna go with NYC, late 1990s...

I've got hot rod since 88, it isn't heavy reading but there is almost always something in it that catches my interest. The newer format(8 months or so?) is better than before.

I see it all over. They recently made a bunch of changes and I dig the new format. I hadn't picked one up in years, but did recently at the airport and I was impressed with how much more diverse it was than I remembered, even if it is still a bit more shallow than I'd prefer. It is now my only other subscription, along with GRM of course.

I still see if often at Kroger/Walmart/etc. Have a subscription. Just wished it was printed on better paper.

Seems like all the magazine does is recap the last months roadkill and hot rod unlimited videos from the motor trend channel.

Roadkill is great. I don't pick up Hot Rod, the magazine much anymore.

$10/year for a subscription, FYI. That's the price of what, two copies on the newsstand?

You decide if it's worth it, I think I'm going to let my subscription lapse again.

Hot Rod and Car Craft were literally my first 2 car magazine subscriptions as a kid. I would get so excited when they came in the mail. I haven't bought it in years, as my car interests evolved to more European tastes. Last I saw them though, I remember thinking how thin they had become, same with a lot of the compact car mags that aren't a million pages of ads. There was one compact car magazine I sort of dug, it was called Project or soemthing, did a lot of cool detailed builds, some on a budget. Most of these should just be digital at this point since they're so small. The only magazines I get in hard copy these days are GRM, Bimmer, and C&D and Motortrend because the last 2 were gifts.

Hotrod is lousy, they jumped the shark a year or two ago with some half-tractor/half-ratrod abomination featured in the mag and it's all gone downhill from there.

They suckered me into subscribing again with three years for $20.00 and I've discovered that they overcharged me.

no way. their Harbor Freight coupons are the best, better than Inside Track club, which the subscription is cheaper than.

Quality has definitely dropped off over the past couple of years. I first started reading it about 10 years ago, and about a year or two ago, it just went to crap. I still pick it up for the power tour and drag week articles, but that's it normally. I'll parouse through it at the store when I'm getting sustinance.

I still get it. $10 year really? You can't find something in it for that price? Freiberger rocks

I read a car craft at the store today and it wasn't half bad. It's like there's a library between housewares and produce. It's lovely.

I still enjoy Hot Rod. Ive been a fan of Frieburger since be took over CC in the mid 90s. I think they do a decent job of covering all the stuff going on. Its like a general interest car hobby magazine to me.

In reply to logdog:

I agree. Frieburger rules. And he's very GRM. Anyone here that doesn't believe that should watch his Road Kill videos.
