My son's Kia Rio air bag light came on during a test drive with a prospective buyer. Timing sucks. The dealer quoted $912 to replace the air bag sensor module. If I find one at the U-pull-it and plug it in will the light clear itself, or would there be some dealer only voo-doo needed? I'm assuming I can find a car without the airbags deployed. Anyone know ?
If it's just the module then yes you can replace the module with a used one. The VIN obviously won't match and it may have to be programmed to the vehicle depending on which system Kia decided to put in your rio that day.
Keep in mind that if the light is on for any other reason than a faulty module the new module will turn on the light but will not tell you what the real problem is. You'll have to install the old module and get the DTC and then fix the problem.
