Lots of wrong info on this thread. First of all, the 1A2 might have been sold as a "Police Wagon", but it is NOT a "Pursuit Rated" car. It does NOT have the Police Sedan's Pursuit Suspension, it does NOT have the Heavy Duty Brakes. The 1A2 designation means "Public Service vehicle", it's a Heavy Duty, not a Go-Fast Package.

Engines available in the Caprice in 91-93 were the L03 170hp 305 V-8 (5.0), and the L05 180hp 350 V-8 (5.7), which had 195hp (91) or 205hp 8)(92-93) in Police/Special Service trim.

In 92 and 93 only, and only available on Taxi Package Sedans (9C6), the Caprice could also be ordered with a 4.3-Liter, 140hp V6 designated LB4. Yes, V6, and yes, you can quote me on that.

Engines available in the Caprice 94-96 were the L99 200hp 265 V-8 (4.3) and the LT1 260 hp 350 V-8 (5.7).

No 1A2s were available in 1996, but there seems to have at least one been built anyway, as were a few L99-powered wagons.

Tires were always 225/70 with 235/70 available as an option, except in 94, when LT1 cars had to be ordered with 235s or were electronically speed-limited to 130 mph.

Total production for all 1A2 years is 846. Yes, Eighthundred-and-fourty-six. Every now and then, rusted-out, high-mile s**tboxes still turn up at state auctions (where they still sell for around 1.5-2k if they're LT1) but rust free 1A2s are a thing of the past. 4k as suggested above, seems to be a good starting point, but really, you can't put a price on ultra-rare. Pay whatever it takes. Or hook me up with the guy and I will.

nobody believes me either, but my friend in high school's grandma gave her a 4.3 v6 1992 caprice sedan. i about flipped when i saw the 4.3 v6 in it.

and "heavy duty brakes" is kind of a misnomer. all 91-96 cars have 12" front brakes. no wagons got rear discs. there is really nothing heavy duty about any of them except they are bigger than the 77-90 standard brakes(same size rotor as 77-90 wagons and police package cars). the wagons got some bigger rear drums than the sedans. the calipers are pretty standard off the shelf that will fit anything from a 70's camaro to just about any other non metric gm rwd car of the era.

technically all wagons had "heavy duty brakes" in the rear compared to a drum brake sedan.

I agree, I should have put it that way. But apart from that, police sedan brakes (in 94-96) really were "Heavy Duty",if only in terms of brake pad lining material and air deflectors for additional cooling.

Hello, can you please tell me how to identify a TRUE 1A2 if the there's no RPO sticker or green hoses in engine bay? What are some other Tell Tale signs? Thanks in advance for your Speedy reply!

The RPO sticker should be in the back on the right side. I don't remember exactly where on the wagons, but it's back there somewhere. If you can't find it, you can always call the dealer with the VIN and ask for the RPO list.

Take the VIN to a local GM parts counter and ask for a RPO printout. bring doughnuts.

all wagons built from 94-96 had the LT1. in fact, the only 94-96 B bodies to not have an LT1 were the base Caprices and some 9C1's that had the little L99 4.3 V8 that looks identical to the LT1 but had single exhaust and the 7.625 rear axle instead of the bigger 8.5 in the LT1 cars.

all 90-96 B bodies had 12" front brakes, with the 9C1 getting a front air dam with built in air deflectors to cool the brakes.

i wonder what the HD wagons had for rear gears? most civilian" wagons had 2.56 gears, but i think i've seen 3.23 or so gears as an option in them... regular LT1 9C1 Caprices had 3.08 gears, but swapping in a 3.42 rear axle from an earlier TBI 350 9C1 wakes them up.

i'd bet that the HD wagons have all the extra cooling (trans, PS, and oil coolers) that the regular 9C1 had, as well as the add on mechanical cooling fan instead of the electrics. probably has the HD alternator and upgraded wiring of the 9C1, too.. look for extra junction blocks under the dash for plugging stuff in.

I would start at 3500 and see how he reacts. Assuming everything on the car is in great shape and works perfectly and it has the good motor.
