I was recently asked if I was interested in buying a 2007 MDX. It's my wife's coworker's daughter's car, and is going to be put up for sale.
The good part is that it is supposed to 100% good mechanically (they have all work done by local shop or dealer) and the front seats have been replaced to improve on the worn out originals.
The bad is it has some rust on the bottom rear corner of the passenger door, and it's up over 200k miles.
Are these good for more than 200k, or is it a ticking time bomb (especially the trans)? Anything specific to these I should be checking for if I do go look at it?
Price would be in the $2-3k range.
This would be to replace the 1998 Ram that my son is driving. I'm concerned that a 200k Acura may not reduce time spent on repairs, and am I better off looking for a lower mileage Focus, Mazda 3, or something else, even if it's from an unknown seller?
In reply to No Time :
my family has owned 2 MDXs of that generation and loved them both. My mom's has over 300k on the original engine/trans, having never needed any major maintenance. The engine is the legendary Honda V6, makes great power, gets 17-20 MPG i think. If you were confident that the oil was changed i'd probably get it
At that price it's kinda hard to go wrong since it's been maintained.i have an 05 with 200k on it. Oil leak and PS leak with worn out front struts. My wife doesn't like driving it because it's too big so I'll be moving it along soon.

It looks like those engines need the timing belt replaced at 7yrs/105k miles.
Any idea how much of a pain they are to replace?
My dad bought an 06 new and ran it until a spark plug grenaded the engine at like 186k miles. He sold it to a dealer tech and got a newer MDX.
