Ok, so I want a GoPro or two to take video while autocrossing, but I really don't want to pay GoPro prices. what else is out there? Is the GoPro worht the cost over it's knock off's?

What are you using?

I have 2 of these

Same size, they fit in all go pro and knockoff accessories and cases, think it's even the same battery.

They do alright video wise, but I really wish I had a remote start for them.

I'm using a gopro5 because they gave me a very good deal when my 4 broke the first time it touched the ground.

That said, not worth the extra. If I didn't already have one, it still wouldn't have been worth it at 50% off because they don't give you any mounts anymore.

I was about to buy an Olfi before the GoPro deal. It seemed to hit the sweet spot between real company quality and low price. I think it was around $150 US and it had gyro stabilizer and lots of mounts in the box. The YouTube reviews showed good quality.

This guy has tons of reviews and youtube videos about action cameras.

I bought a Gitup 2 on his suggestion and its been a pretty decent camera for much less than a go pro.

There is a company selling video camera bullets now, ten in a box for $99. High fps video feed, cell app integration.

There must be long ish range data communication hardware, and camera hardware, and power. And the regular bullet stuff.

So the hardware must be less than $5 bucks each.

I use this one (Lightdown LD6000).

Sample video. Its a bit out of focus because rallyx :(. Dirt and mud get on the windshield and can move the focus distance closer.

I have access to a lot of gopros at work, and in my experience, they suck. The video quality is fine, but the phone app, wireless start, on-camera interface, etc. is all crap.

FWIW, you can put the Lightdow camera in "car mode", feed it a 5v power source and put a switch on it to turn it off and on. I.E. put a button on your dashboard. You can feed the same 5v source to a bunch of them to turn a bunch on and off simultaneously. Its a whole E36 M3load easier than asking the starter to turn it on for you, or trying turn it on right before your run while wearing a helmet, turn around in your seat to do it, etc.
