Door sag?
An xj with 30-33" tires is a very liveable beast. Having said that, i REALLY dont see the need to go bigger than 31" until you actually experience 31s stopping you from doing something. These things dont turn or stop very well in the first place and bigger tires just compound their street-manners problems.

That'd be a hilarious full circle. My first car was a gifted 94 ZJ that was absolutely flawlessly perfect.. plus it had a 5 speed.
Well, that accounts for one of the seven or so they built. That was my personal unicorn for a few years...I've still never seen one in person.
My cousin bought it. He wanted a ZJ, and wanted a manual. The dealer didn't have it. He was paying cash, they made it happen somehow.
It was the first item I ever sold on ebay. The gas was killing me. Sold it in 2005 for $4500. The guy flew in and picked it up no questions asked, drove it back to Florida.
I have a whole clutch set-up for the 92-newer Trooper if you find an auto and want to swap. And some JDM fenders and a hitch, if you need any of that. Leftovers.
There are a couple of sellers on e-vil-bay for the Bighorn diesels you could swap in for mpgs.
For an XJ, I ran 235/85/16s on a set of pucks in the front and shackles/wedge in the rear. Plenty or tire options and stuff meant for real trucks that get driven instead of Swampers for a trailer queen.

Any details on mpgs and cost of the bighorn swap? Not familiar at all, but I've always wanted a diesel small SUV

Mitsubishi Montero
I wish I had a photo of the Montero that was at a Jamboree I attended this weekend in WVA. With big mudders on there, it fit right in. It sent me to CL looking for the Dodge Raider that I used to lust after in highschool...
(win level factor 9 Mr. Sulu...)
I'm not sure why, but it seems all the older Mitsus blow blue oil smoke. For that reason alone, I would not wnat one.
Several years ago we had a cellular telephone company rep take us up to several tower sites on tops of mountains in a 4runner. That sold me and a co-worker. Mine is 2wd and not an off road vehicle. He is on his second one and has put over 300k miles on each one.
We have several Explorers at work and to be honest our 2008 has been a great vehicle.

The Cruiser is posted is pretty cool, but I think there are better options if I wait.
even toss between a trooper, a k5, and a 4runner.
I'm backing the trooper as well, but I'd certainly consider a k5 or the yota as well.
It's probably easier to find the chevy or the toyota up there as well.
Or a bronco/bronco II?

I like the trooper's barn doors and unique attitude.
Feel like driving?

I'll say it before anyone else does. XJ! But what else?
A rusted-out Scout with no heat and only three functioning cylinders.

That 95 Trooper is pretty damn close to my ideal trooper.
Belteshazzar, nice! I did a motor in one in my carport last year. Did not enjoy it.
those upper bolts holding the trans to the engine are a bear, i've been there.
So you want an locker and 31s? Montero all day. Its the only one in this thread to fit 33s and have a rear locking diff stock, just find a 2nd gen SR or 2.5 gen with the winter package. They also have a lockable center diff so you get 4-low, 4-hi, AWD, and 2-hi. Seats 7 too with the third row installed. Its also the winningest model in Dakar Rally history and we all like race cars, right?

I think I am going to have to pass on the Trooper I posted due to time constraints. The XJs or first gen monteros are still looking mighty fine.
What's the deal with frame rot? Is this something that can be repaired by a body shop? I'm guessing no.
