ok, so the datsun 210 didnt work out... the owners pretty much just up and dissapeared on me, so i dont think im getting it...
anyway, i found(and bought) a 97 mirage de coupe, 1.5 with a 5speed... can anyone give me some info on them? namely im having trouble with the shifter... it doesnt want to shift correctly... the shifter mostly wont go but up and down, wont go to neutral and only has 5th gear... sometimes i can get it to go to first or 3rd, but the shifter is all goofy... maybe ill make a video of me messing with it... think its shifter linkage problems but im not sure(ive never dealt with FWD shifter assemblies really)
at anyrate, getting it home im sure i burned the clutch out on making a few 0-60 starts in 5th gear :( so ill be pulling that anyway...
the good news is that the motor is so smooth, i cant even hear it run at idle(scraped the starter like 5 times figureing it was off already)
what do you guys think? junk?

Check the shifter by removing the console. Disconnect the cables at the shifter and the transmission, see if they're free moving. Reconnect.
They're so reliable it is BORING.
I think they are similar to the geo prism and earlier models had smaller versions of the 4g turbo. Might make for a fun swap with a dsm turbo drivetrain.

close to the geo prism? i thought the prism was a corolla in gm clothes?
I had always thought that the mirage and the lancer 6 shared parts, is there any truth to that?(IE, will i find bolt holes in the rear for a Diff?)
as for the shifter stuff, i took the air intake stuff off to see the shifter linkage near the trans, i cant see much but i did see some kind of metal bracket type thing with a cable through it catch on something when shifting... i have no idea how they work but it does seem like somethings off right now the shifter will only go up and down and into 5th gear... its farting weird i tells ya :D
I rented one of those once when I was between Daily drivers due to an accident. It was such a boring car I would constantly lose it at work's parking lot
