Hey guys!

So looking at slapping a JRSC on the D16z6, because ... well, it would be awesome.

I've found a few locally, but I'm curious on a few things. It's a discontinued product, if I need to replace the bearings, how hard will it be to source parts?

And I've heard I need to check the coating on the blades, what am I looking for and if it's no good, how much is it to get them recoated?

Why not just go turbo? Seems like less of a pain to me.

With a D-series, wouldn't an engine swap make more sense power wise?

I thought these were based around an M45 or something... if so, the rebuild parts should be cake to find. Not sure how much it costs to get the blades re-coated, unfortunately.

+1 for turbo if you have no reason to use a supercharger specifically. More efficient and more flexible.

And cheaper. I mean I have a turbo manifold for a D-series that I have been trying to sell forever for $35.

I highly doubt it's going to be cheaper. These used JR units can be had for DIRT cheap, and if it takes you longer than 2 hours to install, you're doing it wrong.

Don't mistake me for a fan of these particular units, but there's nothing easier or cheaper about a turbo setup in this particular case. Many things better, but definitely not easier or cheaper.

I have several reasons actually, most importantly: ease of install.

I have a complete lack of desire to touch the exhaust end of the car currently and even less of a desire to do a full swap. Already has a good set of header/exhaust on it. I also don't have a garage or a place to be apart for long periods of times and the super charger install is clean and nearly painless in comparison to a turbo setup. They make nice power down low which is where I need it. They're great fun in autoX, and they're different.

You beat me to the punch, this is the exact reason. If you guys could keep an eye out for them that'd be great, I've found a few locally, but none of them are a super great deal (just decent deals).

Yep, I'm pretty sure the blower is an off the shelf Eaton.

These guys are popular for rotor coating in the SC/GTP world.

Same here.

Benefits: Don't have to tap the oil pan, Don't need to remove AC, don't need to route intercooler piping...

Hmm, this just got ON my radar.

But i need to go re-verify that that D-series intake will bolt to my older EW1 pre-D 1.5.

I have been thinking of installing a JRSC myself, still working on getting all the parts together.

You'll need to log in to post.
