For perspective what I am about the say is coming from someone who daily drives an 01 740i, has a couple e36 m3s, range rover hse, etc.... Don't do it. lol I owned a 6 speed 545 with the msport package and the car was a total pile of garbage. The n62 engine is overly complicated and between valvetronic, coolant transfer pipe and the other designs/systems there is enough to fail to drive you broke for sure. When I got the 545i it was throwing 18 codes, engine codes, this doesnt include codes from other modules. It was a comfortable car and when it wasnt in limp mode drove quite well. lol Personally I would say your are better off with an e39 540i 6 speed, try to find a well maintained example that has had the chain guides serviced. For 8-10k you could get a really solid car, maybe even an msport 03 540i/6. If you are going to make a financial mistake go all the way and get a high mileage e60 m5. hahaha

My v8 bimmer sedan line up back then...
