I need a better solution for storing the Javelin during the winter and this HF portagarage is on sale cheap this month. It looks like it would fit nicely in my side yard parking area and is designed for gravel.

Anybody have one? Thoughts?

Thanks!

How well will it hold up to the weight of snow?

Good point! We don't get much snow up here. The collapse last year I was asking for (using a cheapo EZ-up as a shelter). The reviews for this shelter have said to throw a good tarp over the top as extra protection.

I was going to say that the covering looked a bit thin, but I don't have any direct experience with it.

Put one up about 1 month ago. Held down by 7 12" wide cinder blocks. No severe winds yet. No problems yet.

In 2010 I put up one of their 14 X 20 canopies. I staked it down good and it survived some serious winds. Then I had a slight dislocation of a hip joint and couldn't walk very well. The snow built up to about 10" and I finally made myself hobble out to it to try to blow the snow off with a leaf blower. Result: It collapsed on top of me pinning me to the ground. I managed to crawl out from under it and hobble even slower back to the house. So, this one has much less span and should hold more weight but still, careful about deep snows.

It remains to be seen if my cinder blocks will be sufficient in severe wind storms. I've stored all kinds of stuff in it so I sure do hope so. I'll keep you posted.

Watch for local bylaws concerning that, my friend had to take his down due to a neighbor complaining.

I saw mostly good reviews, so maybe give it a go.

Can you fit a javelin in a 17 foot long space?

I have something similar over a car (up north in the hills at my sisters house). Enough snow will push the roof in (too much space between the bars), and the cover on this one looks to be a bit lighter then the one I have.

My solution was to screw in some extra tubes (a friend had a bunch of spare parts for these) at 45 deg angles between the tubes. This seemed to cure it. Also, the tarps will likely wear out pretty quick, so be prepared to strap some more over it (HF of course is a good source for these).

I have an older version but I think I paid about the same amount as that a few years ago. I used to set it up beneath the deck so it never had to hold much of the snow load, and take it down each spring. Now that I have a garage I no longer use it. It served its purpose as winter storage, since there isn't much room inside to actually work on the car. Also, the front and back of mine would flap in the breeze and scuff the paint on the bumpers, so I used to add extra tie-downs and stake it to the ground.

For $200 I don't see how you could go wrong.

Good question. It's 192" long, which is 16 feet.

I have a Shelterlogic brand tent for my car with same style room. The material is fairly heavy duty vinyl. When it snows I use a push broom on the inside of the tent to knock the snow off. You just push up on the roof and the snow slides off. If it is light snow I'll let it go up to 6" deep if it is wet and sticky I try to get rid of it every 2-3". PITA sometimes but I've had it since '06 and just put a new cover on it this year, mostly sunbleached pin hole leaks. As long as the material isn't of the same kind as EZ up is made of that sounds like a pretty good deal. My is 12' x 20' and I have plenty of room for RX7 and some storage. One winter I managed to stuff the RX7 and a Mustang inside.

you just ask them if they'd rather look at an eyesore of an old car or an eyesore of a cheap plastic garage..

Fenders, doors, hoods - absolutely. As long as you add lighting. There's no way it would work to paint a full size car though. Its just too small inside.
