All well and good for this year. Next year these cars, and perhaps some others are on the list to move to STS:

Honda Civic (86-2000) , Acura Integra (90-2001) , Sentra SE-R (91-94), Nissan NX2000 (91-94), Toyota Celica (94-2005), Dodge/Chrysler Neon, Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS (98-2001), Nissan 240SX.

The OP wants to get some ideas for cars that are "safe", as in not on the list, as to what the next best ST car may be. That kind of excludes you, now...buts thats cool...have fun!

Funny... i was looking at both of those cars a year or so ago for this very same purpose.

The only problem with the Mirage is that there isn't much out there for suspension, but.... adapting isn't something that you and i are afraid of, i imagine.

But yes... the Mirage in particular makes good power for it's weight, and it IS light.

Locally, that might work, but older carb'ed cars were not what the ST classes were meant for (EFI cars). There has been a discussion about this in the past. Per the letter of the rules, you can't change needles/jets in a carb to tune it, which is not very realistic.
