We had a 2001 that weighed in around 2100lbs. Ours was a 4 door auto, apparently the manual transmission was 70 or so lbs lighter but I think the 2 door weighed about the same. Ours had A/C too, and that was optional. Every thing else was manual (windows locks etc)

While not the most exciting car in the world the 95-98 cars had a twin cam 1.5L that would be fun with a manual trans. My sister has put 45k trouble free miles on her 96 (3spd auto) and I take it out on the back roads occasionally and its pretty fun shifted manually. 2005lbs.

In the same vein, the Toyota Paseo's are a good choice as well. Same 1.5 DOHC motor (very eager to rev) in a sporty coupe shell. Shaped like a precursor to the Prius but without the pretension that comes with the hybrid.

Or just put in BMW and use the details to narrow within your price range ($1000 above your highest) and then search via Cars and Trucks for sale by owner.
Weeds out the dealers and the big $$ cars...now you only have maybe 100 to sift through.
