Live Thread: 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe review

You know, I really like this car.  I'll buy one in 2025.  In fact, I'll even take this one--it's the perfect color for me and I like the interior.  What is it about MBZ cars that look so, so well-engineered and "strong" for lack of a more eloquent term?  This is a very cool car and I'm jealous y'all get to punish it for a while.

Missed the Vantage comparo, so yes, the Vantage IS simply sexier, but I'm scared I'll break down on a road trip or something with the Aston.  Not so with this Porsche-look alike from Mercedes.

I haven't driven either, but I think I'm leaning Vantage, because Aston Martin.

It does along with a lot of the interior stuff behind the screens. I really liked the previous GT car from Mercedes, like a LOT, and the Vantage was on my short list but a bit to shouty and stiff at least the ones I was able to drive. 

I briefly owned a 2015 Jaguar F-Type R. Like the Mercedes, it was a beautiful shape, but, like the Mercedes, it's not small. Beautiful, but I did find myself thinking how much more perfect it would be if it was just 10% smaller... and 10% lighter.

Wish I had more disposable income then... because I'm begging for a 10% bigger sporty car (miata or brz for example)

I probably spent too much time on this and I'm not sure what you should do with this information, but here you go:

• An ND2 Miata measures 154.1 inches in length, 68.3 inches in width.
• 10% more (according to the math of someone with a liberal arts degree) comes out to 169.5 inches in length and 75.1 inches in width.
• For comparison, this AMG measures 199.2 inches in length and 81.5 inches in width.
• Out of curiosity, I checked out the Supra measurements: 172.5 inches in length and 73 inches in width.

I'm sure there is a sports car out there that comes closer to the 10% more measurement, and if I have more time, I'll poke around a little more.

I have been looking at the S63 Coup as a replacement for my CLS550.  I think it is the perfect balance between the S550 coup and the S65 coup.    The one and only one option I want is the ability for the driver to move/control the passenger's seat.  It's a long story.  LOL  

IF you get an S-class coupe, get the S600. Its the perfect in-between of the S550/S560 and S65.

For the v8 cars (S550/S560/S63), make sure its the 4.0 not the 4.7 and 5.5. I know you have experience with the m278 engine because of your current car but the 4.0 m177 is worth paying extra $ for and more reliable, especially in the 2015+ S-class coupe price range.

With the wet clutch in the S63 and how stiff it is, it does not drive as smoothly as you'd like from an S-class.

The S600 coupe is almost as fast as the S63 and far more reliable than the S63 and the S550/S560, and the v12 is the smoothest ever. 

Rank in order of reliability: S600/S65, S560, S550, S63.
