Good news. The mechanical fuel pump decided to work on its own. Time to disconnect our electric fuel pump setup.

Time for a long smokey burnout from the front wheels?

It drives! JA and I just got back from a trip around the block. Almost like a miracle, the mechanical fuel pump primed and started working fine after about five minutes of running on the gas can, so this thing is almost like a real car.

The brakes are, well, terrible, but parts arrive tomorrow to improve that situation.

Was looking through photos and realized I don't have many--JA was mostly shooting while I spent most of the day under the car. But here's one to set the mood and show our setup:

And here's one of my nemesis, the left rear brake drum. I did eventually smash/pry/will it off of the car in order to get the wheel turning.

Did J.A.'s sideburns grow more when you got it fired up?

you gotta have proper porkchop sideburns if you are going to be seen in such a HUGE coupe convertible.

also, good work Tom and J.A.!.

Actually, the sides of my face did feel a bit of a tingle. Thank you for your support.

I watched Roger Cook from This Old House demonstrate how to properly trim those hedges - you need to cut deep inside to allow sunlight and growth thru the whole hedge.  I too noticed how they were trimmed.

Do you have a photographic example? I'd be happy to trim them better. Today was a quick deal to create room.

These later engines can take some simple tuning to get a lot more.

Be sure to hit the horn.  Of this era it should certainly be a genuine Cadillac 4 note horn.  That is 4 separate horns playing in unison.

How many ash trays?  And, not a single cup holder.  Of course, this was from the era where you could just keep your beer in your hand while driving so no need for a holder.

I love these old Caddies. Do you have any plans involving steer horns?

My wife's from Texas, but my mom's not. laugh But I think my wife's Element would look oddly cool with a set of steer horns.

And yes, four tires fit in the trunk with the lid closed.

In reply to Tom Suddard :

You could probably fit more than four. My dad used to tell stories about him and his buddies at Ft. Bragg all piling into their '59 Eldorado to go camping on the weekends in the early-mid 60s. Four guys in the car, and enough food/beer/camping gear to last a week in the trunk, with room to spare.
