Yes, they are a u-pull it, though they seem to be trying to minimize that aspect of the business as much as possible. The big u-pull-it yard here in Austin got bought out by them about a year ago. They now charge an entrance fee...yes, seriously.
Yup its 2 bucks to get into the one in Durham
I don't think i've ever been in a U-Pull-It that DIDN'T charge an entry fee, and i've been in a few over the last decade.

BTW, the Wrench-a-apart on 71 has taken up where Capitol left off when they sold out.
Yeah, unfortunately I work right near S. Congress, so the LKQ yard and all of the other small yards are a 5 minute drive. Super convenient when I'm bored on my lunch hour. One of these days I'll bite the bullet and pay the enterance fee.
Surprised I've never run into you, Andy.

I think I just have bitter grapes because the old yard (Capitol) didn't charge a fee. Too good to last, I suppose
1/2 off everything at the Gainesville LKQ for the next couple of days.

The admission fee doesn't have anything to do with profit, only with liability.
(At least, this is how it was explained to me when my local yard started charging a fee years ago.)
You pay your buck or two. This makes you a paying customer and therefore subject to the yard's liability waiver. Most yards make you sign an actual paper agreeing to the policy, but even if they don't, by paying your fee you have entered into a business contract.
If you happen to drop a big-block Chevy on your foot, the fact that you paid a yard fee goes a long ways in reducing your position in a lawsuit.
