Did not see that coming. Congrats to him.
Yeah... Got lucky with the short run.
Good race, though. Everybody had a chance, Kyle looked good, then Harvick, then Joey on short runs and Martin on long ones. I was pulling for the 78, although the 4 and 18 probably deserved it more.
Then Joey won...I seldom like Penske NASCAR drivers.

Was that really necessary? I get it NASCAR is not for everyone. Get over it. Do I need to start a let’s bash NASCAR thread again.
Last time I gave people the opportunity people got really quiet but when we post a thread so those of us that like it can talk about it people seem to think that is the time to post up there dislike of the sport.
So why is this?
And, how about Tyler Reddick on Saturday night? He was never more than six inches from the wall all night. That was impressive- I guess you can't lose the rear if it hits the wall right away.
Brett Moffitt in the trucks was probably the feel good story of the weekend. Hattori racing didn't have the dough to run the season, but managed to scrounge enough to do the job, mostly because they won Daytona firat prize money. I presume it's the first Japanese American race team to win a championship...

Perhaps it's the goofy ass playoff gimicks. The stages. I'm not even sure how it works anymore.
I like circle tracks. I liked NASCAR. But it's been yawn for me lately, too.
Good for him, I have no problem with it. He ran well most of the year, even if not as good as "the big three".
As for the mindless, tired NASCAR bashing...yawn.
That car was bad fast all weekend. Shame Truex didn't sack up and put a bumper to him like he'd talked. I'm an SHR guy, and I was watching the race with some JGR folk, and all of us left disappointed. Going into the night we all said "so long as Logano doesn't win we'll be happy" and we all ended the night drinking heavily.
Good night for Ford though, and I'm super happy for the 10 team. Almirola finished 5th in points for the year. Pretty outstanding for his first year at SHR.

Bad fast for 20 laps. Without the caution, or with the same caution 15 laps earlier, it was Truex. As far as putting the bumper to him, well, he had to catch him first...
No denying Joey won the race, and did what he needed to do. I just wanted, well, anybody other than him out of the four.
More of the oval infield road course format WITHOUT the 'stages' would rekindle my interest.....but I'm not holding my breath... Dean1484, as I've been told here myself......get a snickers brah

Yes, agreed. While I'm not a fan of the stages, I can live with them. However, I really don't care for the way they have the championship decided. If you happen to be really good at Miami, then you can have an advantage. Or if it comes down to a short run and you're good for 20 laps. I'd like to see the championship be the final 3 races. Make them one road course, one short track and one 1.5 mile. Best average finish wins.
Still a fan, but this years' racing was lacking something. Not that I want to see cars wrecking all the time or non-stop cautions, with the exception of the All Star race, many of the races were not as exciting. Hoping that slowing them down some and screwing with aero will help.
I would much rather have had Truex win but I don’t think anyone can be too disappointed in how the day went. They were the four best drivers most of the year and they finished the season about six seconds apart after an afternoon of racing. I’m not a big fan of the chase format but I’d rather watch this than when the championship was decided 3-4 races before the season ended.
I would like to see it get back to something that if you switch on in the middle of any race, you understand what is happeneing.
The gimmicks kill it for me. Its unfortunate because I used to watch every weekend. Now, I have no idea who is doing what.
The playoffs actually turned me off of Nascar.
Let me turn this post around... I love the cars, the attitudes, the drivers. I hate the format.
if they could just race all year for points for a championship, I would watch again! Also, maybe they could take a play out of the Australians playbook and have different formats each week. Like 1 weekend a sprint race and then an endurance race the next day. Something like that...
Congrats to Joey Lagano

I watched the last 120 or so laps. I was invited over for dinner by some NASCAR fans. First 120 or so laps I have watched all season.
I was really hoping that Truex would win, but I am also solidly in the ANYBODY but K. Busch camp!!

The reason Americans tolerate all that complexity and ambiguity from football is that almost all of us grow up from age 0 having the rules and way the game works hammered into our skulls by shared culture and school. It is not what people prefer or seek but rather it's just the way things are. Perhaps in 100 years everyone will know and love G/W/C, stages and the arcane playoff system, but until then I can't turn on a race (especially late in the season) and be up to speed in 5 minutes like people could in 1999. You know, when the sport was bigger than everything except football?
NASCAR is so protective of that moment when a battle breaks out and the crowd gets excited that they don't realize that it can't be like that every single second. It would be like if baseball had 250 home runs per game. People become overstimulated and tune out.

I had never thought about it that way. I think you are really on to something there. I would take it further and say you need a bit of boring to make the good parts that much better. You just can not have 500 miles of on the edge of your seat excitement because it gets boring. They are not willing to accept that every now and then a race with no cautions and the leader lapping the field is not a bad thing.
I really don't understand how having stages makes it hard for you to figure out what is going on when you tune in at the middle. You need to fugure out who the leader is, and who is fast, and who is slow, no matter which system is used.
Now, to the complaints about stages making artificial excitement- Go find a video of a Michigan 500 mile race from a decade ago, and try to stay awake through the middle 400 miles. Then come back and talk to me about stage racing.
You'll need to log in to post.
