I know GRM had an MX3 buyers guide years ago, but I don't have it around anymore. I am going to take a look at a 155k mile 95 with the 4 cylinder and a 5 speed. It doesn't look too bad in pictures and is only $1000 so it doesn't seem like the worst deal. I also have three sets of wheels and tires for my Miata so it's nice that they are interchangeable with the MX3.

Anything in particular I need to look out for? Any notorious weak spots with them? I am planning on using it as a winter beater to keep my Miata off the road and it'll maybe see some rallycross duty if it is still in one piece in the spring.

I have little to add but can confirm that my '90 Miata wore MX3 rims for years and yes, they are exact fit.

Nothing to add other than a request that buyers guides be moved online. I've found myself looking at potential cars and been far from my trusty stack of GRMs . . . but I always have a smartphone with me.

Check for rust in the rear strut towers.

Other than that... just your standard rust and leak check. There's no real huge failure points on these.

They're great cars. I'd rather see you get a V6, but a $1000 car is a $1000 car.

It'll be slow as balls, just as a heads up. There's nothing wrong with it, they're just slow.

Luckily if you get bored, a BP (1.8 DOHC) swap is cheap and easy down the road.
