So I agreed to help a friend that has a 2004 vr6 3.2 powered Porsche Cayenne. It was throwing a ton of codes which hopefully are solved with a new ($250 that was with %20 off) battery and a vacuum hose. The problem is I can't find the actual vacuum hose for sale without a $200 valve attached.

The car is pretty much a vw touareg vr6 with vtec. Basically a motor that's been around from the early 90s. But none of the part numbers seem to cross reference between Porsche vw Audi... I did find a valve cover gasket for $8 as opposed to $200 for most of them but this is comically ridiculous price mark up.

Anyone have a place for less than insane Porsche parts?

I seriously just need a ~12inch plastic tube with proprietary connectors at the end. It goes to the air oil separator from the passenger side of the intake manifold. Really not looking for a $160-500 breather valve.

Cut the ends off the tube and shove a chunk of rubber vacuum hose over them?

I've never owned a Porsche. Well, not yet. But I've purchased Audi and Volvo parts from Pelican Parts and never had an issue with them.

Rockauto.com sometimes has decent parts cross referencing.

If you have the OEM part number, sometimes a Google search can turn up some forum responses with alternatives.

Honestly, even though the Cayenne is mostly a Audi/VW under the hood, there are differences and you will likely run into parts that only the Porsche uses and those will just be more expensive since there are less of them in the world than the VW/Audi versions. So there are times where one has to just pony up the money for the expensive part and chalk it up to owning a Porsche.

BTW, Sunset Porsche in Oregon sells parts at nearly cost and ships nation wide. If you're a PCA member, you get a discount as well. Its worth checking into if you're stuck with OE parts as the aftermarket hasn't gotten there yet.

In reply to Stefan:

You are spot on with Porsche only part on this one it seems. I found the vw equivalent for $23 but the the hose was too short

The Audi and vw local parts receptionist wouldn't even transfer me to the parts department when I said Porsche ...the part numbers won't cross reference in their system.

And thanks for all you other guys that chimed in. I will know where to go for other stuff that comes up... But apparently it's not possible to get the hose separate in this case. I checked with all the sites and it looks like they only come as a pair.

I can tell my friend in good conscience that he should just give someone else the deal he got on the Cayenne and pick up a Touareg instead
