Hey, at least you've got something to debate again!
Hmm two years to figure out how to explain to SWMBO that I need a less practical car.
Glad Mazda isn't done with rotaries yet. All that profit last quarter must be encouraging.
Well, crap.
I guess this means they definitely won't be re-producing housings and rotors for the older engines now..
The weird thing is that, historically, the bump from 10A to 12A to 13B created an increase in torque out of proportion to the increase in displacement, which would seem to indicate that making the combustion space wider, not longer, is key to getting it all burned.
I wonder how far apart the spark plugs will be in this. Or if there will be only two per rotor.
I imagine I will get poo-pooed for saying this, but a new rotary car just seems like an unwise squandering of precious resources.
They've built two consecutive generations of rotary cars that have had less than stellar out-of-the-box longevity. I wonder if they can avoid berkeleying this one up, and also, who, beyond the infinitesimal number of monied wankel nuts, Mazda expects is going to buy this thing.
If they are really doing this, it would be nice if they made an "MX" version too, this time.
What I'd read a while back was with the new laser spark plugs and multipoint direct fuel injection Mazda has a running rotary that had a wide power range and fewer emissions. I don't have a clue what it did with the fuel mileage and I don't actually care.

It was called the RX-7.
Back before they went all ruining the car by hanging turbos off of the engine and other wacky stuff...
