I really wish they would bring back the wagon option for the V cars. CTS-V wagon is on my list of cars to buy if I won the lottery.

It's a shame that Cadillac keeps improving then shoots themselves in the foot with this naming convention. They had so much brand equity in CTS and V. Now, V doesn't mean jack while "Blackwing" is the new special. Except it has nothing to do with their essentially unused Blackwing V8...?
Mercedes, BMW, and Audi have been using the same naming schemes for decades, and because of that, the general public understands the difference. These should be called the CTS-V and ATS-V with two different versions of a Blackwing V8 in them. Still a great car, but they could have been better.

I don't know if I completely agree with that. Yes, it's kind of dumb to use the blackwing name on the engine and then immediately ditch it but the V thing is exactly what BMW did with the M name, and what audi did with the S name. You can get "Msport" versions of almost all their pedestrian cars (hell, my mother has an x3 M40i) and you can get almost any audi in an "S-line" variant. Less than a decade ago BMW shuffled all of their models up to match the door count. Even numbered cars had 2 doors and odd numbered cars had 4 doors. But then they didn't. And then they did again. Infiniti blitzed everything and changed it all to Q models after many years under other names. Bottom line, you're right. It just gets confusing when there is no easily identifiable model lineage. But they're not alone in that regard.

Oh Infiniti is easily just as bad; they refuse to get out of her own way. Mercedes has been all over the place with SUV designations, but the Audi and BMW numbering at least makes sense (aside from the idiot "grand coupes"). The BMW M40i part is a point of contention for me though. Everyone is so quick to crucify BMW for the lower M packages, but they forget M started as a trim level with the E12 M535i after the M1.
Yeah, everyone may be leveraging their performance monikers to market "normal" models, but I'd argue Cadillac has done the worst or at least the most confusing job. It would be like if BMW called the M340i an "M3" and the actual M3 an "M3 schwing" or something.
In the end I don't really care though. They're still building them and with a manual transmission. I'll call it a win.
Now I want to put a schwing nameplate in the BMW font on the back of our Lemons hooptie. Maybe Pep Boys can help me out...
With BMW, having "M-sport" stuff aside from the real M cars is nothing new. There's no badging to indicate it, but if I look at the options list for my E38, it shows that the car has the "M Sport Package" as well as "M Sport Suspension" and a few other M bits. The wheels and steering wheel that come with the package have little ///M logos, but no model designation change or anything.
