1993 Miata 5spd long story short: Driving home from work and it starts making a roaring noise. Sounds like a bad accessory, or pulley bearing. Remove belts, still does it!
It does it all the time as long as the engine is running. Doesn't matter if it is in gear, or out of gear, stopped, or going. As long as the engine is running, it is roaring. After trying to pin it down a little further, it seems like it might be coming from the rear of the engine on the driver's side. Any ideas?

Electric fan?
Definitely not radiator fan(s). HVAC not on/running. So, unless there is a fan in there I'm not aware of, nope. Thanks.
I'm starting to lean towards a bad bearing in the CAS. With all the accessories unbelted, I don't know what else it could be. It's not the pilot bearing since it makes the noise while driving. It's not the transmission input shaft bearing, or any other transmission bearing since it makes the noise in gear while sitting still.
It's not an exhaust leak kind of noise, either.
Thanks for the responses!
A harbor freight stethoscope is useful in situations like this. Barring that, a nice long screwdriver held up to your ear will work too.

Good idea. I was planning a HF visit anyway.

bad throw out bearing?
I don't think it's the throw out bearing. The noise doesn't change regardless of clutch pedal pressure. I know this doesn't necessarily prove anything and I'm not going to completely rule it out. But, it doesn't SEEM to be the throw out bearing.
Stay tuned.
