The time has come to replace the diff mount bushings on my MSM. Everything was going smoothly until the top hat bushing on the bottom of the PPF under the differential wouldn't budge. I tried soaking it in PB Blaster, pry bar, hammer and chisel, heat, and repeat. It's stuck. So I dropped the diff with the PPF attached. The PPF won't slip off the diff without bending it. Here's how it sits now.
I have a new bushing, so am willing to destroy the old one. What's the best way to go about this? I was thinking about drilling it out now that I'm not looking up at it. I could leave it attached, but that's going to make getting the new mount bushings in rather interesting.
It works best to use two pry bars so you can pull on each side at the same time. Those hooked bars are my tool of choice.
If you want to replace the side bushings, you can always take the aluminum housing off the back of the differential.

Thanks, Keith. I was thinking about just removing the rear cover. This would be lighter and easier to work with anyway. It bugs me that I can't remove the PPF, but the only reason I can think of for it to actually come off is a complete rebuild (say, for ring and pinion ratio change). For now, I'm keeping the stock ratio in case this becomes a BSP car. But in the future, it might be nice to do the 3.6 R&P change.
I'll look into getting a second pry bar to apply force evenly to both sides. The hole in the bushing is slightly ovaled, so I suspect the bushing is deformed on the other side of the PPF locking it in place.
