More worried about clutch life than PITA, more compact rotational mass is just a convient byproduct. Also looking LSX style throwout bearings. Not quite sure what they're called but if I'm understanding everything right, the arm or mount doesn't move, the throwout bearing just expands.

Is it a price thing? There's some options out there for some SERIOUSLY beefy clutches that would have no problems holding even the power that i'm going for in my MX6. (Don't know what you're going for with the Miata, but i'm out for records in the MX6, and the current torque record is 468wtq.) FD RX7 clutches bolt on to F2Ts, South Bend makes a clutch rated at over 500ftlbs, and i think Spec makes one that approaches 600.

Just looking at what "should" bolt together easiest. aiming for about 400ft lbs, Not sure where that will put me hp wise.

Nah that should be a touch over 300whp. Substantially more with some tricks to "square" it out a bit. I imagine i probably told you those down in FL as well?
BTW: TII trans + Diesel Courier rear end = WIN if my calculations are right.
70mph @ 2400rpms on the highway.
64mph in 2nd gear.
178mph top speed.
This is assuming 23" tire and factory rev limit.
Stretch to 7000rpm with megasquirt and a 24.5" tire to deal with the torque and things get REALLY interesting.
70mph @ 2250rpms on highway.
77mph in 2nd gear.
215mph top speed.
Sounds excessive, but with that much grunt and the powerband, it would be an animal.

If I get to twitchy for power, I know where there is a diesel truck sized turbo with a fresh rebuild I can probably snag for cheap.

HX35 plays really nicely on this motor. HX40 will still spool decently, but i doubt will make any more REAL power than the 35.

Oh and the miata feels light and twitchy approaching 90-100 I wouldn't want to double that in a miata without some serious aero work.

Is there some issue with using the B2200 trans and related hardware like the bellhousing & clutch fork etc and just playing with the rear end gear? I know it's kind of a wide ratio box...

Most likely won't hold the power/torque.....
Edit: on the other board, I mentioned he could always adapt an E30 large case diff to work, as you can readily find lower numeric gear ratios
I had thought about that option myself, just don't know what a BMW rear looks like, that and the Ford rear is pretty well documented.
Why nor use the 6 speed with 1st blocked off and make it a 5 speed with a dog leg.

I didn't have any luck looking for a used 3.6, so I just bought the R&P from Mazdaspeed for $500. I don't think the 3.3s exist.
IIRC, FM has most if not all of the necessary bits available to put one of their V8R rear ends behind a Miata transmission, which can get you a 3.23 or 3.42. That's not gonna be cheap either (although probably not a bad idea if you're really targeting 400 lb-ft).

I guess I don't understand why you'd need a modified clutch fork if the B2200 bell housing is used behind an F2. Seems like it's all factory at that point.

You need the modified clutch fork for the 6spd, don't think you need it for the B2200 setup. 
Just put some tall ass tires/wheels on the back. Problem solved. Bewm.

Already somewhat getting there.. the car will probably be running a ~24.5" setup vs. a 23". I can't get wide enough in the "normal" sizes.
This seems reasonable dumped into a Miata.

With the RX7 trans and rear mix and matching, you MAY need a sort of custom driveshaft anyway.
The TII trans and TII rear use a different driveshaft than a NA rear and trans. There are ways to adapt them back and forth, you just need to pay attention and think of the balance.
I think there is something weird with FD clutches (Like they actuate backwards from all other clutches).
Are you guys saying that an FT2 will bolt onto a TII trans? If that is the case, I want to put one in my FC when the Turbo rotary goes boom.

It should bolt to the TII trans with a B2200 bellhousing, yes.
