I'm looking at hooking up a Cool Shirt set-up in my '93 Miata before the Dragon Hill Climb next month, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to wire this. My thought is to use the wire for the power antenna, hook a toggle switch to it on the dash, then use the relay for the power antenna motor to connect to the pump for the system. It sounds simple to me, but I suck at wiring, so I just want to make sure I'm not over simplifying anything. Thoughts/suggestions/better ideas on how to do this? Thanks!
You don't really need a relay, those pumps pull very little amperage and you're just adding another part into the system that could fail. You could tap into nearly anything that's hot in run and put it on a toggle switch out to the pump. Or, the more easier to trouble-shoot option could be to run a wire directly from the battery with an in-line fuse holder, into a toggle switch, out to the pump. If you're adding a new ground for the pump make sure it goes to shiny metal- smear some dielectric grease over the metal to prevent rust.
Thanks Ross. Wasn't sure if I needed a relay or not, figured it's better to ask someone who's been there before than to guess myself & get it wrong :D
Just plug it into the cigarette lighter with a switch between the socket and the pump.
