My father has an 01 Stratus Coupe, which has the Mitsubishi V6 6G72. He has about 65k on the clock and lately it's been making a weird noise at startup. If it sits overnight and he starts it with a cold engine, it makes a noise that sounds like a spun bearing that increases with engine speed. He turns it off and then immediately restarts it and the noise is gone. It runs fine after that and doesn't have any other symptoms. I think it's some sort of timing chain tensioner/idler issue, but the fact that it goes away immediately when you restart is a stumper. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the timing belt ten. It may have leaked all the oil out aka failed.

Its time for a belt anyway so you have nothing to loose. Dont cheep out get all the bearings if they fail the good belt wont last 5min.
