I am tinkering with a survivor 1980 Mk1 Ford Fiesta. These were really cool little cars back in the day--with Ford Kent 1.6 cross-flow engines right out of Formula Ford, super light-weight, and body design penned by Tom Tjaarda who did the Pantera. I mean, what's not to like?
But as it turns out, parts are pretty much impossible. I have been looking for a CV joint for weeks now. I have tried all of the usual (and some of unusual) places. It's gotten so bad that I have bought two now from England via eBay--both were too small where the driveshafts are supposed to go in.
Before you tell me to go to the place that you used to buy them for your ITC racecar, I can assure that they don't have them. Same goes for your FF parts house.
Does ANYONE have any fresh ideas--or better yet a whole box of these sitting under a case of gear oil in the back of the garage?
If I can't find this part this car is going to turn into a full on driveline swap for want of a $40 part. Don't make me go there!
Thanks!!!
inner? or outer?
is it external spline, bolt-on, etc?
do you have dimensions, spline counts, etc?
we might be able to find something "close enough", or fab a simple adapter, etc.
sounds like a fun project for the GRM brain trust.

I used to joke when my in-laws first moved to West Virginia that the Mk I Fiesta was the West Virginia state car. Those buggers were everywhere in and around Romney WV.
But that was close to 30 years ago. There may be some still lurking in sheds and back yards of WV.

Funny, that was the first place I called...and no, they are no longer doing CV work.
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
You asked for it!
My suggestion would be get some custom axles made using current off the shelf pieces. We did this on one of the race cars
We used the stub axles and had the axles made up using those parts.
Keep in mind this was 25 years ago but the cost was around $250 per axle.

I was going to suggest the FB group also. Those guys have lots of spares.
I owned four of these cars at various times. Would love to have another as a collector car. However, the parts situation is pretty dire. Can't get windshields either from what I'm told.
I would have thought the Euro parts would work but you probably have to get XR2 axles. None of the 'normal' models had the 1.6 version of the Kent as I remember.
I'm a past owner of 3 of these cars, a '78, a '79, and an '80 model. The last was race in IT.
I currently have a '79 that's been sitting without a drivetrain as I work on other projects.
I was successful in getting CV's from UK Ebay.
You just need to know the shaft diameter and spline count before you buy.
I haven't come across any but I was told by other Fiesta owners that there are two different size shafts and spline counts.
I upgraded my hubs with later versions via Ebay UK.
They do require using non-stock wheel bearings in the stock knuckles and spacers to set bearing preload but they are stronger then the OEM ones.
I broke 2 hubs back when I raced my Fiesta's.

The hubs were a known weak point.
What is wrong with the current ones? Are they completely missing or just worn out?
