Most comfortable vehicle you've owned?

I've had 2 Astros (85 and 97) and I thought I just had some freak body configuration because those were some of the most comfortable seats for road trips I have ever spent time in. Been across the country twice, up and down the east coast, tens of trips from NY to Texas and explored the eastern half of Canada in those vans. I now have a 07 Silverado 2500 and a 05 GTO. Both by far nicer, quieter and better driving, but the seats do not compare. My other halfs Taurus however has the worst seats and driving position I have ever experienced, this includes my 92 f250 work truck bench.

1985 Mercedes Benz 500SEL

My old Acura Legend (First first generation with the transverse V6) was pretty comfortable, except for when the HVAC control would do the screwy thing where it would not blow heat no matter what you had it set to. I drove that from NY to TN several times. And it got 37mpg through Ohio with the cruise control on.

A conversion van. It was an '87 Chev g20 Waldoch conversion with Flexsteel seats. The most comfortable driver seat ever. Oh yeah the 3rd row seats folded into a pretty comfortable bed. I could have lived out of that vehicle if I needed to.

Mercedes has the record of offering both the best and worst seats. The 500SEL being some of the best.. the lowly 190E having some of the worst. Folding metal chairs are more comfortable than the seats I used in several different 190Es

Owned: my old '90 E150 conversion van. It was like driving your living room and about as comfortable. Those vans were design to eat up long road trips and did so with aplomb. Granted, if you were in a hurry, you could almost watch the gas gauge needle move. I still miss that van. My current '08 Grand Caravan is a close second. It's a base model, so the seats aren't the best, but it has still been surprising - which is good considering how many long drives I do in it (regular trips from PA to NH and back for work). Of modern cars I've owned, my E30 wasn't great. While BMW E30 sport seats re great for short ot medium jaunts, they got tiring during longer drives.

My ex's '96 Volvo 850 wagon was damn close - those seats were incredible.

As classic cars go, her 1800ES is very good. We did many long trips with that car. My '64 Mini is the worst, with a combination of seats with little support and a driving position with your knees in your chest. On a good side, the 5 gallon gas tank (and non-op level gauge) means multiple gas stops for leg stretching. My Spitfire and GT6 feel like quiet and roomy luxury cars after driving the Mini.

3-way tie for me: 86 Porsche 911, 86 bmw e28 and a 99 bmw e39. E61 is close, but not quite as good.

LS400.

Tie between my 2010 Fusion Sport and my old 98 Audi A4 Quattro. Both have cushy seats and a smooth ride. I was pleasantly surprised with my 03 350z Track. Non backbreaking ride with 30+ mpg.

I think we should be including our body weight, height and pants inseam for a proper comparison. Just sayin'...

Unreliable cars have to have great seats, so when the driver of said German (or Swedish)Rambler has to wait for the tow truck again, at least they can wait comfortably.

Had 2 worth mentioning.... 2002 Lexus IS300 - not so much... rode hard, also 2005 Accord coupe - nice ride, poor space utility

I'll agree with you about the e28 BMW, but my 1986 Carrera rode like it had no suspension travel at all and its factory sport seats were hard as a church pew and grabbed me in all the wrong spots

1995 volvo 850 Turbo is superb. The 2007 V70R looks awesome but its just a notch less comfy as I'm more constrained by stuff. An early 2009's Caddy had great highway comfort.

My 03 s600....I didn't know what luxury was until I bought that thing.

My old 2009 Mazda3, the seats and ergonomics were perfect. Only car I've ever taken a 10hr drive in and felt perfectly fine getting out.

A Lexus LS460 is silly comfortable, would be my top pick if I had to buy one specifically for comfort/long trips... Which may not be a bad idea when my 2 is paid off. It's not anywhere near comfortable with the 700/450lb springs and RE71Rs and horrid stock seats But somehow I manage 100mi daily commuting to/from work.

Peugeot 504 diesel wagon. No competition for best seats.

Most comfortable for road trips was my 1997 Mustang Cobra, all stock. Very comfortable seats and cushy suspension, easy to see out of unlike my current '14 Mustang GT. Enough power for easy passing and people generally move over when they see one approaching from the rear on the interstate.

In no particular order: 1987 Pontiac Parisian≤sp? 96 crown Victoria lx, my 09 Mazda 3 and my 11 focus have all been supreme mileage eaters

I'm a masochist as I daily drive a MSM. That said, my '96 GTI was the most comfortable car I've owned. The suspension was too soft from the factory, but it made a nice GT car with the VR6 engine. My second most comfortable car was a Z3 M Coupe. Not the best around town, but it just ate up highway miles so long as the road was in good shape. I could daily drive a TR6, so this is all relative.

LS400. Air suspension is slightly more pillowy. The only car that I drove that matched it was an S600 with electropneumatic sus.
