My problem with tents is condensation forming on the inside, plus rodents seem to like them. That said, this project rocks, and I hope that he nails it.
He got rid of pop-up headlights!?!?
Edit: Actually they were more like flip-out lights and they weren't that cool, so I'll give him a pass.

anyone know how much an svx engine weighs? I'd like to know engine plus auto trans. I just had a really really bad idea.

Might be a tight fit in a X1/9.

No, it's a worse idea than that. Under the bed in the rear of the saab truck. the svx and my saab are only about 2 inches off in width and track width, and I think the svx would be the subaru 5x108 (probably close enough to the saab 5x110 with some creative bolts).
The major thing that would have to move on the saab is the gas tank, and an auto is actually a plus for me being that I don't want to have to shift the secondary engine myself!

"Creative bolts" is code for "wheel adapters", right?

In reply to Robbie :
Oh, that sounds even better. You may have to give up quite a bit of bed space though with the height of the engine.
And the SVX is 5x114.3 (Most modern Subarus are 5x100).

Wobble bolts is what I was referring to, but putting wheels adapters on the front wheels and running subaru wheels 5x108 all around wouldn't be bad either. certainly much more selection in subaru wheels.

Doh! what am I thinking of that is 5x108?
edit: here's the answer https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/what-cars-use-5x108-wheels-aside-from-some-volvos-and-jaguars/99776/page1/

even better the svx is 5x114.3, as I ALREADY HAVE 2 wheel adapters from the saab pattern to that. I ran them on the front so I could mount mustang drag tires at the 2016 challenge...

So, I have heard passing reference to what it takes to make the Subie box a NON rear drive. What exactly is involved effort and cost-wise?

Sounds like it varies, but most manuals seem to need a splined collar adapter to lock the center diff so that power always goes to the front, and a plate to cover the hole and keep the fluid in.
The svx auto may already have gear driven front wheels so it may only need a plate.

I know of one Beta Montecarlo in Europe that has an Alfa V6 in the middle.
Unloved chassis? I just looked one of these up (I’d never heard of one). They are not unloved. Maybe “unloved” in the sense that if you’re going to spend that amount of cash on one, you may as well buy something better...
In reply to Trackmouse :
I love these Lancias! When I said unloved chassis, I didn't intend it as a blanket statement about all Montecarlo/Scorpions...just that this particular example was neglected and many folks would consider his specific chassis worthy for scrap.

I met a guy about 10 years ago at Road Atlanta with an Alfa engined swapped Scorpion. In the early '80' a buddy had a turbo Scorpion built by a firm in Texas or Florida. It was seriously quick but liked to detonate various engine components on a regular basis. As a multi X1/9 owner, I always wanted one of these but never seemed to find the right one at the right time.

I weighed an SVX EG33 after tearing one down for parts. Fully dressed (alternator, PS pump, AC compressor) it was 380 lbs. The EA4T trans was 225 pounds which is about 100 pounds heavier than the 5 speed WRX manual box.
