Just bought a 95 s10 with a freshly rebuilt 350 in it and it was smoking out the drivers side exhaust, so I pulled the valve cover and the intake rocker on the #5 cylinder wasn't moving so I pulled the intake and the lifter has a hole in the bottom of it...Never had a 350 apart like this before...could it just be a lifter or should I just pull the motor and check everything? Any advise is appreciated, thanks.
Check the oil filter for metal odds are cam was not broken in properly.
Pull the engine and check everything out, that way you will know for sure how the engine is. There is a good bit of metal floating in the oil with that much wear on the lifter. Like Stan said, the cam wasn't broken in properly.
indeed. i'd be ready to do a minor overhaul of every bearing plus a cam and lifter set, to the worst of your crank journals are scored.
good reason/excuse to go roller cam too. i pretty much won't build an engine without one anymore if it can be done.
