1st rule of S Class ownership, nothing newer than 1990.
Might be cool to drive for awhile. My thought: buy it, drive it for as long as it needs nothing more than general maintenance and live with minor issues, then as soon as something major fails, sell it for scrap/parts.
If you're lucky you might get a few years of driving out of it and then your cost of ownership over that period might not be too bad. The recipe for financial disaster is to keep chasing/repairing various complex components.
I wonder how difficult it would be to put that motor in another car. I wonder how interconnected the computer system for the motor is to the rest of the car.

I looked up a few common repair item prices for you, all for the same make/year/model:
Transmission Repair: $9500
Computer Module Replace: $9500
Hydraulic Module Replace: $9500
Wiper Motor Replace: $9500
Strut Replacement: $9500
Ash try cover: $9500
Spark Plug Re-gap: $9500
A buddies dad buys a used s500 every once jn a while and when he bought his newest one he kept the early 2000s model and my buddy drove it around for a while and for have 200k miles it was surprisingly solid, said only expensive repair they had done was a starter and it was like 1000 or 1200.
I'd take the risk at a lower initial purchase price, knowing good and we'll if there was a big repair it would be expensive.

I actually think that video is a fake... Watch some of the accelerations, what Benz has gears that low? How does it sound the same inside the car and out?

Wiki says first year of the 12 cylinder in the S Class is 1991, the W140 series. Some folks say that was the last great S Class, others say it was the first crappy big benz, YMMV.
The only reason not to buy it is if you are planning to daily drive it long distances (even though technically that is what it is supposed to be good for). If you just want to luxo cruise in it once in a while or you have some super short commute then sure buy it. Just know that the penalty for putting mileage on it is breaking things that cost mo money.

That was my first thought. The revs don't match the speed of the car.

There is likely a huge difference in sound between the 3-1 factory log manifolds with a straight pipe and a 6-1 merge collector setup.
Also fake? Same engine (displacement may vary):

Too bad F1 cars don't sound like that anymore. The exhaust note in the video sounds like a few year old F1 car going thru the tunnel in Monaco!

Interesting. Same heads/cams? That's cool. 3-1 vs 6-1 makes sense.
I still feel like the Benz that has what, 5?, gears and an auto trans is revving way too fast and shifting way too much for what looks like 40-50 mph. Even with tiny wheels I'd expect 1st gear to go up higher than that.
Now I'll be looking for ways to make my v12 challenge car sound like this...
