Incredible shape for up here - one owner car with only 88k kms (55k miles) that is all of about 4000 kms per year.
They are fun and decently peppy - no sports car. 1.8L and a 5 spd.

OK so (long) funny story....
A couple of years ago I was trying to sell a Triumph GT6
My neighbourhood was having one of the Community Garage Sales and so I put a "For Sale" on the car more as a joke, but I guy walked up and bought it out right. Turns out his wife was turning 40 in a month and when he asked her what she wanted his wife replied "A red sports car". I thought this was really great, I told my wife who was 38 at the time what happened and after a moment's pause she replied "What a great idea, that's what I want for my 40th birthday as well".
So selling that car didn't actually make me any money at all, in fact it cost me a fair bit of money. Since my wife is not a sports car aficionado I had to consider almost everything in finding the right gift, including a Laura Holt VW as shown above. Here's what we ended up buying for her:
Eric
Looks like an Ontario plate. I can vouch for that being in good shape for around here. Good find and purchase. They are good cars, an ex gf had one. Just gutless is all.
NGTD, thanx for not showing my wife this one, she thinks oiling her up with a bottle of red and letting her have her way with me is plenty.
Heather Graham drove one in License to Drive, too.
Is my reference suitably obscure?
Yes, it is an Ontario plate. We saw while on our way to Ottawa 2 weeks ago on vacation.
My wife had one about 12 years ago when we lived in Kingston, but we traded it in on a 95 Golf TD. She really missed it.
She had planned a trip somewhere warm this year - but this was too good to pass up.

Killer obscure reference, Keith.

Road trip somewhere warm. Open top. Best of both worlds.
My wife only wants 2 cars in the toy (versus the commuter) category.
White VW Cabriolet.
70-72 Corvette Convertible.
I'm concentrating on the Corvette...

Uh, Mercedes you mean? :) strange. most obscure references go over my head.

I would have liked Heather Graham for my 40th birthday.
Despite being deep into my 40's, I still have 7 years to wait until my wife hits the 4-0. This has nothing to do with cars, just wanted to brag about marrying a hot, younger woman.

Let me know if/when you guys get divorced, because i'll ermm.... wait. Nevermind.
Can i just have the car?
Hey, to the right 40-year-old, Laura Holt is not obscure! I knew a girl in high school who once dressed up as Laura for..Hallowe'en? A costume party? Anyhow, she now drives a red BMW Z4 that her husband bought for her, although she talked about a "Laura Holt car" years ago.
I built the LS1 MG for my wife, not tied to a particular birthday. I shudder to think of what she would demand for a significant birthday.
