I was blowing 21psi with the stock t3 that comes on a '86 thunderbird. never a wimper. I had a fmic though. Is this car still hot air?

If there was an XR at Pick-N-Pull, I'd have the hatch/wing already.

Car currently has no IC, but that will change as soon as I get it running (gotta save reserve cash for possible replacement head if it does go to that)

I've got a couple of intercoolers, an NPR and a Volvo, but don't know if I can get them to fit while keeping A/C.

This will be the first car I've had since 2001 with air, even living in South Texas.

Need to keep it more for the kids (up to now, they rarely ride with me) than for myself.

Mine doesn't have a sunroof, and I'm glad.

Whale tale ftw! Go with a cozzie grill while you're at it too.

The solid roof cars are called competition coupes and are about as rare as black unicorns. I had one that a friend accidentally sent to the crusher. Most CCs came without leather, seat heaters, with manuals and about half of them came with manual windows. I have only seen 1985 and 1986 CCs, I do not know if there were any 1987 or 1988s but I do not have any proof that the do not exist.

I've heard of the fabled Competition Coupes. My '85 is exactly as you discribed. The '87 was an auto, with leather. My '85 having been hit by a falling tree limb will probably become my next Challenge Car donor. The roof is caved in forming a small pond.....Possibly ideal for tropical fish farming?

My '88 has the Cossie grill and lower cossie rear wing only. That's just the look I like. A couple of years ago I stumbled on manual window doors with the correct matching leather door pannels at Carlisle for like $14. Made the trip up from Florida totally worth while.

I was pushin over 25psi in my 2.3T. My best ET was 12.9 @ 111mph, my fastest run was 14.5 @ 127mph!! and both of those were with 3 second 60ft times. If it had traction it would have been in the low 11's for sure. I have never been in a more violently powerful car. These motors can take ALOT of abuse. www.turboford.org if you don't already know.

that is a damn nice car for 300 dollars. even as a roller, it would be worth that.

Swap in a hot 5.0....roast some tires....

I did some poking around the car. I think it has BAT -25mm springs and some KYB GR-2s on it.

Eventually they'll go away for Konis & coil overs, but neat anyways.

I have the Chris Grayson (MC2Racing.com ?) koni coil overs on mine. Great guy amoung many in the XR community. I actually have pretty much everything they sell on my '88 (including the bumper stickers). Nice stuff.

Love, love, love that Opel John. Keep building that cool stuff! I saved a copy of the photo on my computer for wallpaper.

The MC2 stuff is nice, first thing I ordered for the XR was the Merkur Library CD.

That car in the original post, looks very much like my old '91 Ford Sierra. I think they are the same car, except mine was rwd and only had the base level 2.0L engine. 1991 ford sierra restoration

They are the same basic car, we only got them from 84-88 though.

My dream is to import a later (~91) Sierra Estate and install a twin turbo 4.2L V6 and T5.

meh, i always found that chassis a bit heavy, but perhaps thats because i only had the 2L 8valve engine, that engine was a turd! I was going to swap in a either a ford ranger engine (torque ftw) or a cosworth 16v (rarer than rocking horse poop). My uncle killed the engine, spare parts became too hard to come by. its currently rusting under a mango tree back home in jamaica.

It is scary how good that chassis can get once torque is applied.

I called my fast one Miss Piggy for a very goos reason though.

After pulling the head, this is what I found:

I guess what would explain why Cyl 1 was about 30 psi and Cyl 6 was 60 psi, eh?

Both the head and block were very flat with no damage shown by feel or straight edge. The head is on now, just waiting for timing kit, and I'm going to repaint the cam cover.

That's great man. Hey, while you're still putting this together, get an adjustable timing gear on there. at 4 degrees retarded I lost no bottom end and it kept right on pulling to redline.

Ha, that reminds me of my friends first xr4, He had an adjustable timing gear but his motor never seemed to get an increase when he adjusted it for better power. When he sold the motor, the guy who bought it later told him that the timing marks on the gear were way off and once they figured that out it worked really well.
