I need some help.  One of the things I loved about miatas is that all the parts are easy to come by.  Now I'm finding an exception to that.  I have two miata rollers that I'm combining into one working car.  Both of the foam on the drivers seats is absolutely shot.  ONe of the passengers is also very bad.  So I have 3 seats, and only one decent foam.  I can't find anywhere to buy new foam.  I've called the local upholstery shop and they say they can't rebuild them.  I don't know if this is because they are the typical american muscle car resto shop and don't want to or it's really that hard.  What are the options here?  I don't really want to get racing seats right now, (unless there are some out there as comfortable for long term road trips as the stock seats.)

Find some used seats? I'm not sure about your area, but they're pretty cheap & plentiful around here. I have 2 I may eventually get rid of, but I may need to harvest the rails off one first.

Are you talking about the cushion, the back or both? Pete's suggestion is your best bet, but for cushion foam you MIGHT be able to find some junkyard stuff that's close enough to carve or sand to shape. I have rebuilt a Miata driver's seat with VW GTI cushion pieces, for example. The back foam has the frame molded right into it, so you would be stuck with finding a used Miata seat for that. I would think any respectable upholstery shop would be able to repair your existing foam, so the response you got seems odd. You could repair it yourself with an electric carving knife and some spray contact cement.

It's the bottom piece you sit on I'm after.  The used miata parts market anywhere close to me is mighty slim, since I live in the flattest, straightest road place in America.

Yeah, i hacked up a passenger side bottom foam for mine.

Ive also had success with harvesting foam from a back seat of damn near anything,  gluing in where i cut out the damage, and then reinforcement with glued cloth to the foam. Then upholstery.
