Even using a dirt track qualifying format with heat races and a last chance qualifier. I am curious though if Nascar will make teams use current chassis, or will they build dirt track chassis? If I was a team owner, we'd be welding up a dirt track special. Seems like it'd be a bit tough to make those asphalt chassis work well. Should be one whale of a show.
My son and I decided that, since it's a truck race, and trucks have different uses than most cars, the format needs a few tweeks.
Primarily, they need to be pulling trailers and hauling cargo.
Pit stops require the trailer to be backed in to the stall.
The start shall be loading cargo into the bed and hooking up the trailer.
I mean it IS the "Camping World" Truck Series.
^I think most would rather watch retired geriatrics try the same thing in the local Lowes parking lot.

I can't wait for this since the ARCA dirt races aren't ever televised.

they've already done testing and know what they have to do to make their existing trucks work "good enough" on the dirt.. Goodyear was there doing tire testing so they know what kind of tires are needed... and besides, not having a chassis that's optimized for the dirt kinda evens the playing field for the smaller teams..
now if we could just get them to haul a bunch of dirt into Bristol again for the Cup guys in the summer night race like they did a few times for the World of Outlaws boys..

i doubt if Goodyear would let NASCAR get a one race exemption from their big $$$$ exclusive tire contract...

Does Goodyear have an exclusive contract? I've been watching long enough to remember Geoff Bodine winning 3 Cup races on Hoosiers in 94...
Nascar is a bunch of copy-cats. Back 40 started that!

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for at least the top 3 series.. i believe Hoosier had some safety issues in the mid 90's and pulled out/got thrown out..
I've never understood race formats like that. the dirt and asphalt tracks up here just run heats, a LCQ if needed and a feature.

NASCAR needs to have the "the top XX cars in points are in the race" rule to keep the big money sponsors happy- can't have a superstar miss a race while an underfunded start and park car sits on the pole due to some dumb luck..

Increase the ground clearance and soften the springs. QED. Nascar ran dirt races in the then Grand National series. they would run dirt one night, then asphalt the next.

back then they didn't build a specific chassis for short, intermediate, long, and plate tracks or spend a lot of money paying a lot of smart people to optimize the bodywork that was attached to those different chassis for each different track or use computer simulations and shaker tables to dial in which springs and shocks to use..
if this becomes an annual thing and not just a one off deal, the bigger teams will spend a ton of money on chassis and body programs that are specifically geared towards winning at Eldora...
