I'm watching qualifying for the NASCAR race (it's on the USA network.) Pretty cool to see those cars on a tight city course. Jensen Button is 3rd in qualifying so far; he reminds me of the old days when drivers would race pretty much anything with four wheels instead of specializing.
I was just going to post.
I've got a some observations:
The cars are really bouncy so I'm wondering what's up with the damper settings.
The corner speeds seem really slow.....could be a visual thing.
I am thinking the race will be carnage given the bumpy nature of street courses.

That's the guy from Australian Supercar? He seems to be doing pretty well.
So many crashes...and this is just qually.
And the delays for wall repair are loooooong.
Gonna be a long day tomorrow.

The Xfinity cars are racing in 45 minutes. Wonder how many green flag laps they will have? A couple of spots look really narrow where a wreck could block the track.

Hmm. Do they still run the suspension theory of all swaybar and soft springs to ride the bump stops? Someone sometime mentioned bars in the 2"+ range.
I am sure there is also a psychological effect from only ever seeing them run on super smooth speedways.
7 Laps without a major incident
Justin Mark's blown engine does not count
FWIW

It does look like the are on the stops alot.
I saw a video of a car on the six axis simulation jig prepping for Chicago. Let's just say it's a long way past the previous roughest settings.
Current Cup rules have several sway bar diameters, ranging from 0.875" to 1.5". Spring rates are 450# to 2500#. My perception is that NASCAR dictates which will be used at each track. That last bit may or may not be true, I thought I heard it on a TV telecast..
Cup car spring and bar rates are left to the teams. Lots of simulation. Apparently the predicted grip levels were not as close as they typically are for the ovals.
I am really wishing I was able to get out of work. It sounded good up until the lightning break.
GA ticket view is... not great today, fence space is at a premium but can be found if you know where to look. I'm expecting the Cup race tomorrow to have more attendees, but with the lightning fiasco (literally none here and barely a drizzle-we're just milling around in the event that they spark (ha!) the race back up), maybe people will be less willing to risk wasting their day with tomorrow's forecast.
Edit: ope and Xfinity race has been postponed to the morning
A week ago, someone stole some side by sides the construction crew had as well.
How do people watch this today?
NBC at 5:00 pm EDT today for CUP
USA at 11:00 EDT on USA

In addition to the normal avenues of viewing mentioned above, if you go on the nascar subreddit's race thread there are typically stickied links to alternative, internet viewing methods that don't require a cable subscription or antenna.
It's pouring rain right now in the SW Chicago suburbs.
In reply to Datsun310Guy :
Good thing they have a wet weather package this year! :fingerscrossed: hopefully it means I'll have a better shot of getting a good view in GA

Don't know why they have a wet weather tire and set up for if they don't race in the rain. How can they get any rain racing experience if they don't race?
In reply to sergio :
The issue yesterday was lighting, then it got dark and the track isn't lit for night racing
The issue is Grant Park's foul weather policy, they haven't opened the gates yet today.
Barely a drizzle here in the SW suburbs now. I have a little over 3" in my rain gauge since 7am today
They just said in the radio flooding is an issue, they're trying to clear the standing water
