I went to the yard today hoping to find a driver's seat for the CAM-Z. No luck there. Bu I'd paid the $4 entry fee so I was gonna look around, My lady was with me and couldn't figure out why I was stopping to pry open the hood of every old for truck and van we passed.

"But you hate fords" she said. 'tis true. but then I stumbled across a late '60's early '70's F-150 pryed the hood back to reveal this gem.

I dropped it on the counter and the parts guy says "wow, haven't seen one of those in a long time."

Paid $41. I couldn't leave it. I'm not sure If I can use it, but I'll rebuild it and either use it for sell it on here for what I put into it and put that towards a new one. It'll be a learning experience.

On the horn there is a stamp that says (6R 4584 B)

My early googling tells me it's a 600, but I can't confirm that.

So What did I find? Did I get a good deal? Did I get a good doorstop?

Based on the filter and linkage, thats OE Ford. Its a perfectly fine small Holley vacuum secondary carb. Toss it on a 302 and enjoy.

It'll do you well. Good deal, I'd much rather prefer an old one than new, the aluminum in the old ones seems better

D4 means 1974 in Ford speak. Could be later but not earlier.

It's basically a run of the mill 4150. List number would be equivalent to an 1850, which goes back a long way. I run a very old one on my belair, and every few years throw a kit at it to keep it fresh.

pretty sure d4 is 1974 still great for a 305 ci. also it looks like a 600 cfm and again jus right as a 350 only uses 525 cfm at 6000 rpm, My Old Holley book jumps that number you may find it under a ford carb site. the #9510 and list #6830 are the relevent numbers.

That Holley has side-hung floats, which from what I've read don't deal with lateral G-loads as well as center-hung floats. Hopefully someone with more real-world experience than me can confirm whether that's true or not.

This is true Pete, but it's not often your side ways load (cornering) surpasses the time it takes to empty the Bowls.there is a bit of Hype here and center hung is best.a street car is fine with them or with a normal driver Most of us don't fit either of these types.

Lots of old Fords had "Motorcraft" Holleys. I had a 1985 F150 with one of the last. They went to throttle bodies mid year of '85.

On the side floats, unless the vehicle your putting it on can do .80 G's I wouldn't worry about them. I installed a Holly 390 carb on my Capri V6 and converted it to center floats. But I did take it to the race track and open track the car. This was the early 80's.

Holley used to have a pdf on their website that showed the list # of every carb they had ever made up to that point (going back to like 1910 or so) that showed the application, cfm, and all the calibration info.. this one just looks like a regular 600cfm 1850 with a front bowl that a standard Ford fuel filter screws into and the Ford throttle linkage. i bet it uses the same rebuild kit as an 1850.. nothing special, really, and it will work fine on a 305... but you might have fun hooking up a Chevy kickdown or tv cable if running an auto behind it.

D4TE xxxxx usually means a 1974 truck application. Makes sense since you found it on a truck.

Jay,

What you have there is a 600cfm 4160 style Holley carburetor with a list number of 6830, it was a carburetor built for Ford Motor Corporation in the early 70s to go on a F250 with a big block ford 390 and a automatic transmission.

Now the bad news is we do not a have a rebuild kit specifically for it, but I have the number of a company that would. They are called Daytona Carburetor and their number is 386-427-7108.

I have no knowledge about or particular interest in this here carb, but the fact that you got a useful response from Holley puts a notch in the positive column for Holley.

I'd be shocked if rock auto doesn't carry a rebuild kit for a 70s Ford truck. Don't forget new floats if you have the plastic kind.
