I am rebuilding a custom axle set for my 914/WRX challenge Car. I brought the car in 2011 and will return this year. Hopefully the engine will not blow up this time.

anyway, the new engine is in and I am tuning the MS system when the circlip comes loose on the inner CV joint of my welded axles and the whole thing comes apart. Thankfully this did not happen at speed.

The joint is from a 98 Forester and has three rotating races on the inner CV joint. I need 2X of the "ring" races that go on the joint spindle.

Does anyone have a source for these parts? Does anyone have a joint that is damaged that I can have the races?

I have a track day next week to sort the car and I don't want to buy an entire new axle.

Thanks

Glad to hear you're trying to make it back! I'm also hoping to have my N600 back...hopefully on four wheels.

This sounds like a perfect part for the U-Pull. Subies rarely need axles, so you won't be depriving anybody else if you just pull the bits you need. Heck, you could buy a spare axle if you were feeling feisty and didn't want to get greasy at the yard. The likelihood of finding these small bits new are slim to none, but I'd say the dealer is your best shot followed by Interparts or similar axle rebuilders.

Good luck!

Hey Bryce, Would be great to see the N600 back. did you figure out a way to increase the track width?

I agree that the part should be easy to find. However, here in TX I can not find any older Suby parts. I guess they have all been stripped or crushed. I am pretty sure the inner joint that I need stopped in 99. Lots of newer stuff.

I called a few axle rebuilders this morning and they don't have the parts either. "nothing that old" was the comment I got. I think they just update to the newer design.

I have a track day with the car on May 18 for sorting. I NEED to get this fixed so I don't have to take the DD to the track.

Dont limit yourself to looking for just Foresters. GC Impreza and BD Legacy axles will work.

I did a quick online check of Wrench-A-Part in Austin and Belton and it looks like they both have vehicle with axles that will work. Other than that there are a few more places in San Antonio that look like they have what you need.

Agreed on the cross model applications.

Yes, Wrench-a-part lists the cars online. When I called that was a different story. Besides, I am about 45 min from each and trying to get there weekdays is impossible, weekends a really challenge. Wish they opened really early.

I was hoping someone might have a parts car somewhere.

I did buy a new axle just for the CV joint and it was the wrong type. The splines are different so I can not adapt my old style to the new CV joint style. I really don't want to cut and weld new axles.

Too bad they dont update their stock in a timely manner. Unfortunately all I have is GD stuff. You might pm modern beat to see if he has any old spares or knows anyone in the Austin area that has some.

Agreed. I was hoping that someone on the board had the parts in a garage somewhere and would be willing to part with them.

I will continue to call and look. I called Cobb and they only have newer stuff. They are around the corner from my office.

In case anyone is looking....

These are the parts I am looking for. The rings that fit on the bearing spider.

I found the parts. 2000+ Outback is the same joint as my JDM transmission. New parts should arrive tomorrow. $25 for a new spider including races from a CV joint/drive shaft shop in Dallas. Feels good to deal local and have someone on the phone that understood what I was describing. Funny that they mentioned I was the first customer in 20+ years to actually buy parts for a joint rather than a complete axle. The GRM way is the only way.

Increasing track width is not on my agenda. I haven't fixed the suspension yet, it's on my "to do" list with 1000 other things! Glad you got it worked out, keep us posted. Do you have a build thread somewhere? I'm curious how your car has come along.
