I loved the look of the ZL1 when I saw it in person, so I'm just gonna leave this here.
I think my problem with the HP wars is that they are going for the big number to use in the ads and not much else. So the Hellcat has 707hp it can't do anything with, and the Z06 makes 640hp for about 10 minutes before it heat soaks.

If the rear diff broke though, how did it drive under it's own power as it pulled away and over to the other side of the track?

At least the ZL1 has air conditioning, can't say the same about the Z28.
AC was an option on the Z28 I thought?
I've ridden in one on track and quite liked it. I enthusiastically approve of the current Pony car Wars with their road course models. Manufacturers battle, we win.
Got to look at a few more photos, I like it. I have no idea how you are going to put that sort of power down through a 305 tire though. I like the lighter weight as well. Do you fit with a helmet on if you are say 6 0' in this generation as you cannot in the old one.
I can see this becoming the new corvette, competing with the stang as it has all these years. And then the corvette becoming (finally) a MR to compete with the ford GT in Lemans.

There's tons of ZL-1s running around my area, and it's a heavily economically-depressed area, so that's a good indicator. I've driven one and with 580hp it was a rocketship. Probably one of the most fun cars I've driven.

Because it's an e-diff. The electronics told the rear to completely lock up and it did. After the crash it unlocked. This is apparently an issue in GM pickups equipped the same system, though not a common one.
As much of a beast as this car is, I think I will probably like the future Z/28 version better (assuming they do like the previous gen and have an NA-powered car setup for the road course).
I think it looks mean, but that grille is... I'm not sure how to describe it. Like some companies have taken the "split mesh" pattern and enlarged it a bit to make a big hexagonal pattern, but the guy designing this one in CAD or a photo editor must have entered "500%" instead of "50%" for the zoom setting on the grille pattern
