Announcing the "Craziest Build Award" presented by CarDomain.com- awarded to the team that has the most far-out concept at the 2010 Challenge.

The winner of this all-new award will be selected by Walter "Butch" Lahmann of CarDomain.com. (Yes, he'll be at the event to pick the winner himself.)

I know, it's a repost. BUT...it's important and cool enough to mention in its own thread. So, who's got an early nomination?

Hey welcome Car Domain!

Um we have already gotten plenty of "why did you pick THAT to build a race car" so I'd say our build is pretty far-out...or just plain dumb

It's a testament to the absolute insanity of GRMers that I dont feel that the Warburg has a lock on this thing. Any place else I take the car its the most insane thing you'll see. At GRM its just one more in the crowd.

We had a conversation about exactly that. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision. Regardless, I'm stoked to see the Wartburg next week! (Wanna trade it for a Mercedes wagon? )

I wussed out and might be up for the most pedestrian entry but wanted something that would at least start this year. Might have a shot at heaviest.

While I do loves me some mercedes wagons I think the Wartburg is a part of me now. However it will be fully registered and insured if you care to take it out for an ice cream run or something.

You would have competition

I welcome the addition of yet another award that I will not have to worry about making shelf space for myself; there are plenty of excellent contenders out there that deserve recognition for their hard work.

personally, sure. it only takes half a hong to outcrazy just about anyone. but automotively, i think you're pretty berkeleying sick. the Nelson family 5-window coupe, perhaps, could hang. but it's just another front engine V8 bug, a veritable belly-button car by comparison. the cheapparal? just a vette with a sucker. crabill's V8 CRX? maybe. Durocco? OK, there's some competition for you.

Id throw the Zamboni and Bryces hybrid in there too. The hybrid especially, that was 10 kinds of crazy and ambitious. I think it all comes down to what the judge defines as crazy. I will bring some build photos because without seeing what's under the skin you can't truly appreciate what's gone into the 'burg.

That's so true. Some of the best cars at the Challenge are the best at hiding some of the most challenging or creative solution to wierd problems.

Yeah...some people think the hybrid Fiero is crazy because it was completely outside the cheap/fast box. However, when I see guys trying to "finish" a Fiat 500 engine swap or a motorcycle engine+car swap in the parking lot during the challenge, that seems pretty damn crazy to me too. Some people think I'm crazy to have driven my Fiero all the way down to San Diego and back immediately after finishing it, but at least I (mostly) finished it BEFORE the competition instead of hoping to finish at the event.

Based on what I've seen, the Wartburg should have a pretty solid lock on the crazy factor. You'd have to be crazy to WANT to build that thing.
